Funny, a friend of mine who likes the show conceded the same thing. He's not stupid though, he's actually pretty smart, just got a degree in engineering and everything.

I think the primary reason people hate Rachel is her backtracking on what her definition of "Take a break from us" was (which she admitted to Monica meant break-up) to put all the blame on her failed relationship with Ross (which early on even he admitted was something they both contributed to) soley on him.
