ITT: We post sudden realizations we've had recently about any given characters, and what these epiphanies have done to our evaluations of the show.
I recently had an epiphany that Starlight Glimmer is shit.

I'm sure I wasn't the only person to think about this, but Spike is more than what we take him for.
He spent his formative years building a mental wall against selfishness and indulgence, a wall that is constantly being attacked by the fact that he is forced to interact on a daily basis with the only mare he's ever met who tempts him.
He slips up once when Discord or some other top-tier being isn't there, and everyone he knows and loves is dead...and he knows it.
This is cause for reevaluation.

I've done the math here, and in the S4 finale...Discord showed us some stuff.
We are left either to assume that the entire population of Equestria has about the same power as 1 Alicorn, since we already know Discord is at least as powerful as 2 Alicorns combined.
That being said, either Discord was capable of utterly annihilating Tirek right up until he was power drained (in which case, why did he allow it?) or he simply gave Tirek a bit of placebo energy to make him feel swole, leaving Discord's real strength as a backup plan.
What even is his brain? He took a scenario that everyone else saw as a no-win and turned it into a no-lose scenario just by being himself.

The teenage dragons were probably doing a necessary evil by smashing phoenix eggs. Ponies don't have to deal with thousands of immortal animals flying around so they'd be upset.
Celestia made almost no appearances in S5. She's likely reaching the end of her life cycle, meaning Twilight will soon have to assume the role of ruler of Equestria.

I couldn't agree more. We've got a Hulk-type dilemma in his head 24/7, stuck in a character who has no redeeming physical traits whatsoever. They turned the Hulk into a messenger boy, and that's unforgivable.
Applejack is a massive American culture reference, if you pay attention to her design and name.

Going on the assumption that Celestia is reaching the end of her life, that explains why her few appearances in S5 were centered around having fun.
She was wanting to enjoy her last days.
That being said, her relationship with Twilight becomes a lot more like that of Goku and Gohan, with her trying to groom Twilight into taking her place.

These lines from Art of the Dress are call forwards, or more likely the other way around.

Then that leaves only the placebo effect. Discord gave Tirek just enough strength to make him feel big and bad, then just watched the rest of the time as Twilight had to figure out the rest.
Either way, we know he's stronger than 2 Alicorns, but if we go with the placebo theory, we don't have a confirmed upper limit on his power.
