Sure, Rara is so cute.

I do wonder if she still doesn't mind getting messy or if she's more like Rarity in how guarded she approaches her appearance.

In think she'll got more open about these things again after meeting AJ and fishing out who she really was.

I could totally see an episode about them two going to camp or to a cabin in the woods to spend time there and have fun outside. The clean kind

>You will never be Coloratura's new manager.
>This will never be first major job since moving Equestria.
>The ponies will never get annoyed by you because you have no experience in the music industry.
>Coloratura will never give you a reassuring smile and be patient with you while you are trying to figure out what to do.
>Coloratura will never be your only friend in this new world.
>She will never ask you what was your world like and you never tell her all you can about human music, technology, and history.
>Coloratura will never become fascinated by your stories and will never ask what is human music like and you will never let her listen from Mozart all the way to Daft Punk.
>You two will never develop feelings for each other and decide to date in secret.
>She will never draw inspiration from the music she listened to and make a new record then go on a tour across Equestria that double the sales of her former persona.
>You will never take her to the nicest restaurants with each city that you go and on the final day of the tour Coloratura will never lead you to her hotel room and make love to her for the first time.
>You will never go to the Equestria Music awards with Coloratura
>This will never be the first time that she was nominated or invited to the awards ceremony
>She will never win not one, but two awards for best single and best album.
>You will never see her cry tears of joy as she trots to the stage.
>Coloratura will never give a speech how she always wanted to go the Awards ceremony since she was a little filly, but she will never dreamt that she would win two awards and you never felt so proud of her.
>Then she will never say "And none of this would ever been possible without my new manager and amazing boyfriend. Anon stand up and take a bow."
>You will never bow as hundreds of hooves stomped and clapped in your honor as Coloratura gives you the sweet smile she gave when you first met her.

>Another day.
>Another odd job.
>Today, your work was helping Davenport move furniture around the shop.
>Last week, it was serving ponies daffodil sandwiches.
>And the week before that, you were doing paperwork for Mayor Mare.
>Tomorrow?
>Well, you were going to have to wait till then to find out.
>The ponies in Ponyville were understanding of your situation.
>No one ever needed a body for any kind of consistent work, but everyday you could find at least one task that needed to be done.
>You head to tavern to hang out with your landlord and spend a little bit of today's earnings.
>You're immediately greeted by the tender when you take your seat.
>"What'll it be?"
"I'll have..."
>You nod your head side to side, looking to your brain to make a decision.
>"The usual scotch?"
>You scrunch up your face.
"You know what? I want you pick something for me."
>The tender looks perplexed, but he humors you.
>"Okay."
>He leans himself over the counter, and speaks to you with a smile, and a playful tone.
>"What kind of drinking experience are you looking for? Are you wanting to keep it light? What about flavor? Do you want something sweet? Or more robust? Or do you just want to forget your troubles?"
>You mimic his position and rub your hands together.
>You let out a series of short putts of air.
"I want something I can savor. Nothing sweet, though. You know, something a bit smoky."
>You toss your hands, as if you're trying to toss the words out of your body into existence.
"Something like-"
>"A scotch?"
>You make a couple clicks with your tongue, and point at the tender in approval.
"Sounds like a winner."
>"Anon, why didn't you just say you wanted a scotch?"
"Well, I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted one, but you sold me on it."
>The tender lifts himself off the counter, letting out a sigh, shaking his head.
>"One scotch, coming up."
>>
>>25763113
You have my attention
>>
>>25763113

>You enter your own world waiting for your drink.
>You run through the possibilities for work tomorrow.
Davenport might still want more stuff moved around.
Or, maybe I can convince him to put me on the floor.
That, or I can do delivery for the Cakes-
>"Howdy, Anon!"
>That familiar country drawl of your landlord interrupts your thinking.
>The orange mare trots up to the stool next to you, taking her seat, and placing her cowboy hat onto the counter.
"Howdy, Applejack."
>"How's the job-hunting goin' today? Got something lined up fer tomorrow?"
"Well, nothing yet, but I'm wanting to go back to Davenport's and see if I can do some sales."
>She gives your shoulder a jab.
>"Well hey, if y'all can't anything, I could always use help around the farm. I'll take a bit off your rent."
>Your body sinks with dread as the thought of more heavy manual labor comes to mind.
>You respond to Applejack with a throaty groan.
>"If you don't wanna work, that's yer prerogative. It won't bother me none if you don't have money to pay your rent."
"I know, work is work, but I'd rather do deliveries around town. At least that way I'd be meeting others."
>"Well, the offer's still there if you change yer mind."
"Thanks."
>"One scotch!"
>Your drink slides across the counter over to you.
"And let's be honest, I could make more money elsewhere, and be able to get my own place for once."
>You take a sip, admiring the flavor and texture.
>>
>>25763350

>"Well, since we're being honest here, it'd be a lot quicker if you managed your money right and didn't come here every night."
>You look at Applejack in disappointment.
"You know I can't do that. I love my drink too much."
>She chuckles.
>"Well, I'll keep my ears open fer any other work I find. I'm sure Applebloom and her friends will too."
>You throw a fist in the air.
"Cutie Mark Crusaders: job creators!"
>You bring your hand back down and shake your head.
"Those girls."
>You take another sip of your scotch.
"You know, they had me run a lemonade stand because they thought that was my purpose?"
>"Did they now? How'd that turn out?"
"Well, I got the lemonade sold, and turned a profit of five bits, and if they girls didn't need the stand for something else, I would have sold that too."
>She lets out a laugh.
"They roped me in, Applejack, and I couldn't say no to them. I just couldn't. Every couple weeks, they come to me with another idea to help me find my place in this world, and I tell them the same thing every time: I can't get a cutie mark, and yet they get all the more determined. I don't think they get it. I think if I had to set them down and have a real conversation about how humans can't get cutie marks, it would break their little hearts."
>"So, if I told the girls that maybe yer destiny was to help out on the farm..."
>You turn to stare down Applejack.
"You wouldn't."
>She says nothing and stares back with a smirk.
"That's evil of the highest level, AJ."

>She cocks her head, as if giving the idea serious consideration.
>You continue to stare.
>She breaks face and laughs.
>"I'll spare you this time."
"Thanks, O' merciful one."
>You turn back to face the counter.
>A few minutes pass by with nothing said between you two.
>You stop thinking, and let the atmosphere wash over you.
>The chatter of patrons.
>The clatter of silverware against plates.
>Occasionally, something would rise over the wash of sound: the laughter of a group of friends, the clinging of glasses.
>You catch the sound of soft hammers striking metal strings.
>Someone's at the piano again.
>They're playing a piece familiar to the ponies here.
>Every couple of days or so, this would happen.
>Someone would come in and play some of the bar's favorite tunes, either for fun or for tips.
>It doesn't take long for chatter to quiet down and for the patrons to draw their attention to the pianist.
>The pianist plays a few notes before hammering down on a chord.
>He looks to the audience, and gives a nod.
>He picks up where he left off and some voices sing along.
>Once the idea, or bravery, catches on with the rest of the group, more join in.
>You place your hands on the counter, tapping along with your fingers, your right hand following the arc of the melody, your left hand punctuating the chords.
>"You playin' the piano there?"
>You chuckle.
"Maybe."
>"Ever consider takin' lessons?"
"Actually, I did. I mean, back when I was in college, that is. I took some music classes as a side thing along with piano lessons."
>Applejack gives you a nudge.
>"Why don't y'all go on over and play a tune?"
>You stop your tapping.
"I haven't even touched a piano in..."
>You look up to the ceiling.
"Three years?"
>"Oh come on. It'll be fun!"
"I'm not a performer. Besides, I don't know anything from here."
>"Why not play something from home?"
>>
>>25772949

>You pause and look at your drink.
>You take in a deep breath, and down the rest of your scotch.
>You slam the glass on the counter and let out a satisfied sigh.
"I'll tell you what: you buy me another scotch, and I'll go up and play something."
>Without hesitation, she accepts.
>"Deal."
>She orders your drink, and you look back at the counter as if it were a piano.
>You place your hands on it, and try to remember your warmup routine.
>You tap up and down the counter, loosening up your fingers and wrists.
>You run through your scales and arpeggios, trying to remember their orientation on the keys.
>"Uh, you know yer s'posed to play that on the piano?"
"Yeah, yeah. Just getting warmed up."
>The looseness works its way up your wrists into your arms, and soon your torso.
>You feel your shoulders relax.
>You give your arms a good shake, and pick your piece.
>You run through the piece in your head.
>The memory returns to your muscles.
>You sing along as your right hand plays the melody.
>You do a full run-through, and find your next drink waiting for you when you finish.
>You take the drink in two swigs, and push yourself from the bar.
>"Watcha gonna play, cowboy?"
"It's called The Entertainer."
>You walk up to the side of the stage, and signal to the pony that you want to play something when he's done.
>When he finishes playing, he turns to the audience and takes a bow.
>Before leaving, he gestures to you and encourages the bar to applaud you.
>A series of stomping from the bar is followed by intense silence.
>You sit down at the piano, and place your hands on the keys.
>You hear a call from the crowd.
>"Play My Fair Equestria!"
>You turn to the crowd.
"Sorry, I don't know that one."
>Another voice calls out from the back.
>"Play Free Heard!"
>The bar chuckles.
Even here, 'that guy' still exists.
"How about I play something from my home?"
>You sing the first few notes to yourself.
>With a quick preparation breath, you strike the keys.
>>
>>25772960

>You play the opening gesture with speed and accuracy.
>You play the final chord of the first phrase with the full weight of your arms pressed into your fingertips.
>You hold the chord out and look into the crowd to see faces stricken with surprise.
>You draw out the next line, playing softly and slowly.
>With the melody opening up, you crescendo into it.
>Your left hand fumbles the bass motion, but you manage to recover when you start the second phrase.
>The second you regain your assurance, both hands start fumbling around.
>It's only a matter of seconds before both hands are completely separate from the world you started in.
>You tell yourself to power through, but that only makes things worse.
>Your hands are creating a cacophony of dissonance.
>Not only are you striking the wrong notes, your fingers are playing more notes than what was intended.
>The lines become more strident the more you play.
>At this point, you've lost track of what you were even playing.
>Booing arises from the crowd.
>You pull your hands off the keys.
Yeah, okay. That was obviously going to happen. I don't know why I was expecting something different.
>You take a deep breath, and come up with a simpler tune.
>You run through your memory of other rag pieces you learned when you started piano.
>Red River Rag was the first thing that came to mind.
>You place your hands on the keys again and the crowd protests.
>You play the piece, albeit at a more conservative tempo.
>The crowd's booing subsides.
>You make mistakes, but nothing irrecoverable from.
>You play the final cadence only a minute after starting and get up.
>You turn to the crowd, which isn't booing anymore, but their applause is unenthusiastic.
>You head off stage and back to your seat next to Applejack.
"Happy?"
>"Happy as the day is long."

>You sit up in your seat.
"Applejack, I've seen the couch in the living room. It's homely, it's quaint, but it's lived its life. I can hook you up with a brand new sofa just like it. Davenport's sofas are built to last, and are comfortable."
>You tap the counter with your index finger.
"I moved one this morning that would fit right in with everything else in the living room. It looks like something pulled straight from the good ole days."
>She tries to laugh off your suggestion.
>"I don't know. Maybe."
"Alright, I'll let you think about it."
Sold.
>The rest of the night is spent fading into the background again.
>Luckily, you weren't the last one to go up on stage.
>The pony you followed up went back on, presumably to finish a set that you interrupted.
>You'd listen in while pretending to be focused on what your landlord was saying about your rent.
>You followed along with the pianist, being more discreet about your tapping this time.
>You imagined yourself up on stage, playing rag time music, this time correctly.
>When the late hours rolled around, your lack of attention became more apparent to Applejack, who took it as her cue to call it a night, and take you home.

>Your morning was fairly standard: load up on water to get rid of that mild headache, get cleaned up, put on a suit, and go job-hunting.
>You head to Quills and Sofas before it opened to negotiate a job with Davenport.
>"I appreciate the enthusiasm, Anon, but I don't need another body on the floor. I've got enough ponies as is. There are still some sofas that need to be moved out front if you're willing to do that, but that wouldn't take but an hour."
>You hold up a finger.
"One day. That's all I ask. One day, commission only, and if I don't sell a thing, I can still do manual labor whenever you need it."
>Davenport rubs his chin.
>After a moment of contemplating, he agrees.
>"Oh, alright. One day. I'll familiarize you with some of our brands while you're getting them moved around."
"Thank you."
>Your morning is spent learning the furniture Davenport had in stock.
>You took advantage of the slow morning to test out the couches, making note of the most comfortable ones there.
>It probably wouldn't make much difference; you were banking on a certain landlord to come in, even if only to say hello.
>You tested your luck with other ponies that came in, but to no success.
>Either one of the other sales ponies would get to the customer first, or you'd intimidate them.
>You tried changing your strategy and making small talk.
>You found that what few faces showed up, most were from out of town, and had heard about this place from word of muzzle.
>There was one customer you were certain about sealing the deal with.
>That was until she saw the price tag.
>You had convinced her that you had the perfect set of furniture for her.
>She lost interest in everything else, and once she saw that the set was out of her range, she lost interest in that too.
>It was mid-afternoon, and you were losing hope.
>Things started slowing down, and the momentum of the other employees carried over, and they continued to get the customers before you.

Might as well ask this with some Coloraturfags around. So what is the timeline for when Rara knew AJ?

AJ and Coloratura hasn't known each other for a long time before The Mane Attraction, but knew each other in camp. AJ, herself, said that they wrote to each other for a bit but then lost touch. This seems to imply that the letter contact wasn't for an extended period and maybe even slightly abrupt in the way it ended.

What we know: the camp timeline wasn't long after AJ got her cutiemark; Applebloom was alive when AJ wrote to Rara about her.

So, was Rara writing to AJ when AJ lost her parents? Could this be a legitimate reason the two starting losing contact?

>You were about to give up, when your saving grace came trotting through the front door.
>"Anon!"
Finally.
"Applejack! Did you decide you wanted that new sofa?"
>She came gleefully trotting up to you.
>"No, I came here to talk to y'all bout something else."
"Oh? Well, let's walk over this way. I still want to show you. I'm sure you'll change your mind."
>You gesture her over to the couch you talked to her about the night before.
>She follows along, but still doesn't show any interest in your offer.
>"So, I've been thinkin'. You know how you like meetin' others?"
"Trust me, AJ. You're going to love this."
>"And how last night, you really liked puttin' on a show?"
"It's everything I told you about, and it's a great deal."
>"Well, I think I may've found you a job!"
"Now, I know what you're thinking, and...wait, what?"
>You look back at her.
>She has an enthusiastic smile on her face.
>"Yeah. How'd you like to my good friend's manager?"
"Manager? What exactly would I be managing?"
>"My friend from Manehatten, Coloratura! She's the famous singer!"
"Colora...tura?"
>"Yeah! Her! She's been having trouble findin' and keepin' a manager. It'd be perfect for you!"
>You shrug your shoulders.
"I don't know, AJ. I don't know the first thing about managing anything."
>"Shoot, it ain't nothin'. All yer doin' is making sure Coloratura gets a fair pay. Her concerts practically sell themselves."
"It sounds risky. What if I don't do a good job?"
>"You wind up back here, and do odd-jobs round town again?"
"I don't know."
>She rolls her eyes then places her hoof into your gut.
>"I try to help you out, and you turn down my offer like a filly turnin' down yesterday's leftovers."
"Sorry, AJ. I just don't know, but hey."
>You gesture to the sofa.
"You could help me out by buying this. I'd make some bits, and and I'd keep this job."
>She turns and trots away, letting out a frustrated groan.
>With your only shot out the door, your prospects at Quills and Sofas has dropped to zero.

>Your sales for the day added up to a whopping zero.
>Despite the bad luck, you thank Davenport for the opportunity.
>You were back where you started today.
>You were back where you started everyday: jobless and with only a few bits in your pockets.
>You pull out your earnings for your manual labor, and count them up.
>You have enough for a couple drinks with a little bit left over to put away towards rent.
>You head back to the tavern, this time to spend it it alone.
>You walk in at your usual time, sitting at your usual seat, ordering your usual drink.
>You go through your usual list of possibilities for earning money.
Well, Davenport's out of the question for now.
Maybe I could do delivery for the Cakes.
Or, see if I could find any place that needs house-sitting.
I could talk to Fluttershy and see if she needs help around her cottage.
Or, I could help out around the farm.
>You make an audible groan at the thought of that being your most likely job tomorrow.
>You think of all the other possible jobs around town, most of which are pure drudgery, and almost none of which are guaranteed to be available.
>You stare at your drink and think back on Applejack's offer.
Manager.
>You look over at the bartender who's cleaning out a glass in stereotypical fashion.
"Hey, you think I could be a music manager?"
>His face contorts into a wicked smile and bursts into laughter.
>He settles down, and glances over, still smirking.
>"You?"
>He shakes his head.
>"No."
"Thanks, buddy. You can kiss tonight's tip goodbye."
>You sip on your drink, and try to come up with reasons to defend your ego.
"I think I could."
>"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah. I mean, it's like selling a product, and I'm good at that. It's just the product is a performer."
>"Anon, your experience is selling lemonade."
"Hey, I got a job selling at Quills and Sofas!"
>"Yeah? How many 'quills and sofas' have you sold?"

>You take a quick drink, and speak in a quiet manner.
"None."
>"See? I don't think you're really cut out for it."
>You sigh.
"Yeah. You're probably right."
>You swirl your drink around a bit.
I'm not really cut out for a lot of things, apparently.
Maybe it's best just to stick to the routine.
At least it's somewhat predictable.
Wake up.
Eat.
Work.
Drink.
Sleep.
Repeat.
Speaking of drink.
>You chug what little there is left of your scotch, and end the night.
>You're on your usual path home when you decide to make a change.
>You take a detour, and head to the river that ran through the edge of town.
>Scant few houses still have their lights on but the light from the starts and moon provide enough supplementary light to get you to where you need.
>The soft running of the shallow river and nocturnal bugs are all you hear when you reach your destination.
>You walk up to the bank and down on the rocks that line the river, and stare out to the forest, into the unknown that lies outside Ponyville.
>You grab a handful of small rocks, and fish around for a flat one.
>You're left with a fat rock with one flat surface.
>You chuck it out into the river.
>It makes a couple skips before you hear the plop of it falling beneath the surface.
Can I really keep this up?
>You find another somewhat suitable rock, and skip it across the water.
>The rock only makes a single skip before splashing into the river.
Is this really what I want?
Day in, day out?
>You grab another handful of rocks.
>One immediately grabs the attention of your hand.
>It's smooth, flat, and a nearly perfect disk.
>That primal part of your brain tells you to keep it for being so special.
>>
>>25782850

>You reach for your pocket before stopping yourself.
Keeping it would just be a waste.
>You wind up your arm and launch the rock.
>One.
>Two.
>Three.
>You hear the sound of stone striking stone.
>You throw up your arms in victory and let out a laugh was a little too loud.
"Haha!"
>The noise causes some small animals to panic and create some rustling in the bushes and trees.
>You let out another laugh, this time much more controlled.
>Your mind wonders back to your life in Ponyville.
>Your day-to-day schedule.
>Were things ever really going to change for you?
>You think about the money you've been saving for a place of your own.
>But how long have you been trying to save?
>Too long.
>You weren't going anywhere right now.
>Not while you kept doing the same jobs
>Not while you kept going to the same tavern.
>Something had to change.
>You think back to Applejack's offer about managing Coloratura.
"Manehattan, huh?"
>You weren't sure if you were ready for that.
>In an attempt to take your mind off things, you try to find more rocks to skip, but none met up to the performance of that perfect stone.
>Most of them would skip once, some twice, but never enough to fully make it to the other side of the river.
>Knowing that you at least made it across once was enough to let you go back home satisfied.

Apple Bloom was born before Applejack got her cutie mark. We can assume from The Cutie Mark Chronicles that AJ and Bic Mac's parents were already gone before she got her cutie mark, since they were nowhere to be seen in AJ's flashback and she didn't mention them when telling it. AJ went to camp after she already had her cutie mark.

So no, Applejack's parents' deaths would not be the reason that she and Rara stopped writing, as they had already happened.

>You took your time getting ready the following morning.
>You sat at the edge of your bed, looking out your window to watch the sunrise.
>You skipped the dress wear, and got on your 'real work' clothes of jeans, worn out flannel shirt, and boots.
>You saw Granny Smith cooking breakfast for the rest of the Apples.
>Continuing with the theme of your morning, you sit down and join them for the first time in a while.
>"Would you like a coffee, deary?"
>You consider the offer, but are reminded of a headache from last night's drinking.
"No thanks, Granny. A water would be great."
>You sit across the table from Applejack who makes a remark as you take your seat.
>"I see you got yer work clothes today."
"Yep. I don't feel like looking around town for work today."
>You're given your water, and you immediately take a gulp.
"Actually, I wanted to talk about something today while we work. It's about what you said yesterday."
>"Bout what, Anon?"
"About being your friend's manager."
>"You gonna do it?"
>You bring your hands up as if to slow her down.
"I just want to talk about it. That's all."
>"What's that I hear bout you bein' a manager?"
>You hear light hoof steps, and see the top of a pink bow travel around the table.
>The chair next to Applejack scoots out and Applebloom takes her spot next to her older sister.
"Nothing, Applebloom. Your sister and I were just talking about a possible job for me."
>You dip your head and bring your hands up.
"Possible."
>"What's the job?"
"Being a manager for Coloratura. Like I said, we're talking about it. I'm not sure-"
>Applebloom gasps.
>"Coloratura? That is so cool!"
"Look, I'm probably not even-"
>"Wait till I tell the girls!"
>You're about to get your final word in when your breakfast arrives.
>"Don't worry, Anon. We'll help you get yer cutie mark! Just wait!"

>Breakfast was spent listening to Applebloom talk about how her and her friends were finally going to get you your cutie mark.
>And something about backstage passes for her and her friends.
>After loading up on food and water, you're given your first task for the morning.
>You and Big Mac were to move the hay bails from the field, and get them stacked up beside the barn.
>Big Mac was in charge of carrying the cart around the field, and you were in charge of riding along, loading, and unloading.
>You take isolation to get your thoughts out in the open so you could organize them before talking to Applejack.
>Big Mac was always a pretty good listener.
>You wait until your job actually begins before spewing your thoughts out.
>You reach the first bail and hop from the cart.
"So, did AJ tell you about what's going on?"
>"Nope."
>You grab the bail by it's side, take a deep breath, and grunt.
>In one motion, you lift the bail and throw it into cart.
>Once you get it slid to the back, you hop in and Mac takes you to the next bail.
"Well, you know her singer friend, Coloratura, right?"
>Big Mac stops at the next bail, then rubs his chin.
>"Eeyup."
>"Well, she needs a manager, and I've been thinking about things."
>You grab the bail just like the last, and hurl it in with one motion.
"The job's in Manehattan. I think about how stressful that would be. It's kinda scary. But then I think about life here."
>One by one, bails begin to fill up the cart.
"It's just my life here has become so..."
>You wait for him to finish your thought, but you're left mid-bailing with him still silent."
"It's kinda become a rut, really. It's a different job everyday, but I still feel like I'm just doing the same thing over and over. You know what I mean?"
>"Eeyup."
"It's just, I don't know if I can do it. But AJ suggested it, so either she really thinks I can do this, or has no idea what she's talking about. That, or she really wants me out of the house."
>You wait for the laughter.

Well, then. I guess that means I'm overstaying my welcome.
>You toss in another bail.
>Your pace is slowing down.
>Before you continue, you lean on the cart for a breath.
"So, do you think I should do it?"
>Big Mac just shrugs his shoulders.
>With nothing left to add, you finish your work in silence.
>It's around lunchtime when you get done moving the hay bails.
>Your back is killing you, your shirt is sticking to your skin, and every step in your boots is like a hammer striking your heels.
>You get back inside and set at the kitchen table.
>It's not much longer before Applejack walks in.
"Hey, gotta second."
>"Sure thing, pardner."
>She sits across the table from you just how she was during breakfast.
>"Shoot."
"I wanted to talk about this job. What exactly does it involve?"
>"Well, you get to travel 'long tours with her, and makin' sure everything's right as rain with the concerts and hotels and whatnot."
"That's not a lot to go off of."
>"Shoot. I'm sure Coloratura will tell you everything you need to know. How hard can it be?"
"I can't make a decision unless I know exactly what I'm getting into, AJ."
>You hear a faint chant from outside the house.
>"Cutie Mark Crusaders, go!"
>You turn to the door to see Applebloom and her friends galloping in.
>"Why aren't you girls at school?"
>"We're on lunch, sis. Besides, we figured out how we can help Anon get his cutie mark!"
>You force a smile.
"You did?"
>Scootaloo nods her head triumphantly.
>"Uh huh. We're gonna help you get that wicked job Applebloom told us about!"
>Sweetie Belle interjects.
>"Yeah, we're getting Rarity to make a fancy suit for Anon."

"Girls, I really appreciate you doing this, but I don't think I'm going to take this job."
>Collectively, their ears drop a little.
"I've tried telling you this, but cutie marks are a pony thing. I just can't get one..."
>"That's nonsense, Anon! You can get one too, ain't that right, sis?"
"I'm sorry, Applebloom. I'm an exception."
>"Whaddya mean?"
>You try to give it to them square.
"I don't have a symbol representing what makes me special."
>They're giving you the puppy dog look.
"And a human finding his purpose is a lot more difficult, and...and..."
>It's like this is the first time they're hearing this from you.
>Ears fallen, eyes wide as plates, and mouths agape in disappointment.
>Sweetie Belle looks like she's about to shed a tear.
>You try to power through.
"Sometimes, humans just don't find their..."
>You groan.
"Maybe you're right, girls. Maybe this is my calling."
>They go from sad to ecstatic in an instant.
>They shout and cheer, certain that this was your destiny.
>"Don't worry, Anon. We'll have your fancy, new, business suit tomorrow!"
>You fake another smile.
"Uh huh."
>Applejack speaks up.
>"Alright girls, git on out. Git back to school."
>They rush out the door, and chant one more time.
>"Cutie Mark Crusaders: Job Creators!"
>You hear Sweetie Belle follow up.
>"Wait. We didn't actually create a job for Anon."
>"Who cares?"
>"Scootaloo's right. We're helping Anon get his cutie mark."
>You look at Applejack.
"I can't do it. I can't tell them no."
>"So, does that mean you're going to Manehattan?"

"Rara?"

>You'll be putting them back soon enough.
>And Applejack reducing the rent?
>She's just following through with her promise for me helping out on the farm.
>Maybe it was because the whole thing was so sudden.
>You were only toying with the idea.
>You didn't really plan on going at that point.
>You just wanted to talk to Applejack long enough to find a reason to not go.
>You wanted to justify staying in Ponyville, continuing your ritual of odd-jobs and drinking.
>You didn't have any real responsibilities to attend to.
>All you had to do was make enough money to buy drinks and pay the rent, and throw in a few bits for food.
>You didn't mean to tempt fate when you told Applebloom what was going on.
>But here you were.
>Standing at the train station waiting for the train to arrive and the sun to rise, suitcases full of money and clothes at your side.
>Two days: gone in a flash.
>Applejack was the only one who got up early enough to come with you.
>"Ready?"
"I guess."
>The wait was filled with more silence than speaking.
"I'm gonna be honest with you. I actually don't think I'm ready for this. I'm scared. I mean, what if I fail so bad that I end up doing more harm than good?"
>Your train arrives, cutting you off before you ramble on.
"I don't know."
>You look down at Applejack and extend your hand.
"AJ, I want to thank you. You know, for helping me out when I needed it, and for letting me stay on the farm."
>She places her hoof on your hand.
>You go for a shake, but she pulls you down to her level.
>She wraps her forelegs around your neck.
>"You'll be just fine, sugarcube."
>You reach your arms around her and hug back.
"Thanks, AJ."

Absolutely fantastic. Keep up the good work, anon

>You draw out the hug as long as you can before the conductor signals that the train is about to leave.
>You grab your suitcases, and head onto the train.
>You hand the conductor your ticket, and find a spot by the window.
>The train departs, and you wave goodbye to your old landlord.
>Looking around, the reality sets in that you aren't going back to Ponyville.
>You're not going to the tavern to have another drink.
>You're not going back to farm to sleep.
>Applebloom and her friends aren't going to help you find your cutie mark.
>The reality sets in your gut like a stone.
Oh man.
>You look out at the distancing village with the sun peaking out behind it.
>Old memories flood your mind.
>Nights spent at the tavern with Applejack.
>Hanging out with the Crusaders while they come up with a million and one ways to get you your cutie mark.
>Meeting all the different ponies from around town.
>You catch yourself smiling in your reflection off the glass.
>You can feel a tear form in your eye.
>Taking a deep breath, and wiping your face, you regain yourself.
>An attendant walks up the aisle, pushing a cart full of snacks and other goodies.
>"Excuse me, would you like a pillow for the ride?"
>You come back to the present moment.
>It was early morning.
>You were tired, and you needed to rest up, because in about ten hours, you were going to be in Manehattan.
"Yes, I would love a pillow."
>You catch a few extra hours of sleep, but from the lack of comfort from the seats, and blaring sun, you weren't getting anymore.
>The scenery only got you so far.
>It wasn't long before you were wishing that you had brought some reading material.
>>
>>25796377

>You look around the car.
>There's a light green stallion sitting across the aisle from you reading a newspaper.
>You make a quick cross over to him.
"Hi."
>He looks up from his paper confused, then scans the car with his eyes to make sure it was him you were addressing.
>"Uh, hi?"
"My name's Anon."
>You reach out your hand to him.
>He doesn't return the offer.
>You pull your hand back.
"Where you headed?"
>"Um. Manehattan. Like everypony else in this car."
"Right. Right. What are you going to Manehattan for?"
>"To get back to my family."
"That's nice. What were you doing in Ponyville?"
>"I was shopping for a new sofa."
"You mean at Quills and Sofas?"
>"Yeah."
"Yeah, I was working there for a short time."
>"Really? When?"
"Just a few days ago."
>"What happened?"
"Got a new job in Manehattan."
>"Really now?"
"Yep. Managing."
>"Oh, you managing a furniture store?"
"No, I'm going to be managing Colotura."
>He looks at you in disbelief.
>"So just a few days ago, you were selling quills and sofas, and now you're managing a pop star?"
"Yes."
>He buries his head back into his newspaper.
>You can hear a faint cuckoo whistle coming from him.
>You head back to your seat.
Whelp. I'm officially crazy.
>>
I like this
>>
>>25796386

>Thinking of how to kill more time, you think of rehearsing your greeting with Coloratura.
>You try a friendly approach.
"Hi, Coloratura? I'm Anon!"
>You shake your head.
"No. That's not right. I need to be more professional."
>You set yourself up again.
>"Miss Coloratura. My name is Anonymous. I'm your new manager."
>You put your hand out for a shake.
"Wait. Should I do Anon, or Anonymous?"
How many managers has she been through?
She's probably a real battleaxe.
>You clear your throat, and deepen your voice.
"Coloratura, I'm Anonymous. From here on out, I'll be your new manager."
>You shake your hand in the air.
"Yeah, I like that one."
>You catch out from the corner of your eye the green stallion looking over at you.
>He doesn't know whether or not he should be worried about you.
>You make eye-contact, and he hides behind his paper again.
"I'm not crazy!"
>You sink down in your seat and mumble to yourself.
"Obviously, she's not here."
>The rest of your trip is spent going back and forth between practicing your greeting, watching the scenery, and trying to take more naps, all with varying degrees of success.
>Just before your patience is worn to its limits, you make it to Manehattan.
>Your muscles are stiff and are in desperate need of stretching.
>You grab your suitcases and leave the station.
>You don't make it far before you're stricken with awe.
>The chaos of everything is overwhelming.
>The skyscrapers declare their authority over all the inhabitants.
>You get so taken in by them, that you forget how many moving bodies are walking past you.
>A pony bumps into you.
>"Hey, get moving!"
>Before you have time to respond, he's gone.
>Remembering your mission, you flag down a taxi.
>>
>>25796554

>You manage to get the attention of one relatively quickly.
>It doesn't hurt being the tallest one around.
>You climb in, and the stallion asks where you're going.
>You open up your suitcase, and pull out a slip of paper with an address on it.
>The stallion reads it and nods.
>On your way there, you go over your plan.
"Just go in, introduce yourself, then get straight to business. Just ask for everything that her other managers usually do, then get a hotel for yourself to spend the night in."
>The stallion drops you off at a building overlooking a massive park.
>You check the directory, and confirm which condo Coloratura lives in.
>You take the elevator up, and rehearse your speech again and again.
"Coloratura, I'm Anonymous. From here on out, I'll be your new manager. Coloratura, I'm Anonymous..."
>You practice doing your handshake, making sure to be firm.
>The elevator climbs and climbs, and so does your heart rate.
"Coloratura, I'm Anonymous. From-"
>Your voice cracks.
"Oh man."
>You take a breath.
"Just calm down already, Anon."
>You pace back and forth.
"Coloratura, I'm Anonymous. From here on out, I'll be your new manager."
>The elevator dings.
>Your heart skips a beat.
>The doors slide open to a marble hallway with a carpeted walkway that leads down to a single set of wooden double doors.
>>
>>25796660

>You grab your suitcases and tentatively walk up.
>You can feel your hands getting clammy.
>You stop at the door, and shake out the nerves.
>You knock on the door.
>You wait, and wait, and wait.
>No response.
>You knock again, this time a little harder.
>You place your ear up to the door.
>A piano is playing
>You slowly open up the door, and knock one more time as you enter.
"Coloratura?"
>The playing stops.
>Hoof steps trot over to you.
>A very light aquamarine pony with opal eyes enters your view.
>Her dark grayish indigo and purple mane and tail flow down into luscious spirals.
>Her outfit was a simple dress.
>Her top was a plain shirt that matched her mane with a studded necklace, and she wore a translucent light blue skirt.
>She has a warm, inviting, smile.
>She was stunning.
>"Hi, you must be Anon!"
>She trots over to you and extends her hoof.
>"I'm Coloratura. I'm so happy to you!"
>Any rehearsed professionalism you mustered had now melted away.
>You smile back at her, grab her hoof, and give it a delicate shake.
>The most gorgeous thing you've ever laid your eyes on, and of all the things she could have been, she was happy to see you.
>"AJ's told me about you in the letter she sent. Why don' you come in?"
>She lets go of your hand, and leads you to a black couch.
>You try to gain back all the work you just did, but you're only able manage a few words.
"Hi, Coloratura. I'm Anon..."
>Even if they were the wrong words.
>>

>"Yes, it's nice to meet you. I've been told that you were looking to be my new manager."
"Yes."
>"That's good. I've been needing a new manager, and not one who's not a bully."
Rule one: Don't be a jerk. Got it.
>You look around her condo.
>The floor is a dark hardwood.
>The far wall is all glass and overlooks the enormous park below.
>You see that there are curtains for the wall, but are drawn completely open at the moment to let sunlight fill the room.
>The walls were a light brown.
>The piano you heard was placed next to the glass wall, so one could look out while playing.
>Along with the black couch, there were two black chairs to the left and right of the couch, all the furniture facing inward toward a matching table as the centerpiece.
>Across from the couch you sat on was a fireplace that was lit at the moment.
>"So, how do you like it here?"
"This is beautiful."
>She chuckles.
>"I meant here in Manehattan."
>You focus in back on Coloratura.
"Oh, right! Well, I didn't get to see much. I boarded the train this morning, and came here as soon as I got off."
>You gesture over to the glass wall.
"I mean, from what I can see here, it looks amazing."
>"It's good to hear. Do you have any questions for me?"
"Yes, actually."
>Not wanting to embarrass yourself, you shift your glaze away from Coloratura.
"What do I do?"
>There's no response from her.
>You look back.
>Her eyes are wide, and her mouth is slightly agape.
>You stare back, not sure what to say.
>She blinks a couple times, then gives her head a quick shake as if bringing herself back into reality.
>"You don't have any experience in this, do you?"
>You force a bit of laughter, hoping to ease the tension.
"Not exactly."
>"Alright."
>She nods her head, but she still maintains a serious expression.
>"I'm sure we can figure something out."
"I know this isn't ideal, but believe me: I'm willing to learn. Whatever I need to do, I can-."
>Your stomach interrupts you with a ferocious growl.

I don't normally do this, but I want to ask you guys for your thoughts and suggestions. Right now, I don't have an antagonistic force set up for Anon. I've got certain challenges that I want him to tackle, and things I want Anon to overcome, but I don't have anything to drive the conflict and to force Anon to change. I need to have some kind of antagonist or antagonistic force so these next few posts aren't just me wandering around, because that's what I'm doing right now.

So, from what you've read, what kind of antagonist do you see Anon facing?

Yeah, I like that. And maybe he can introduce human music to Coloratura. It can be a point of bonding for them, but it also becomes a challenge to sell some of it to ponies.

I like how you've set him up as a people (er, pony?) person. I can see him befriending a tutor that would help him learn the ropes while taking on the darker side of the industry on Rara's behalf.
