Bump.

ITT: MLP:FiM fanfictions, on-topic discussions, off-topic discussions, replacing commas with semicolons, voteposting, creating your own wiki so you can keep the shitty details about your shitty fic straight, debating the definition and meaning of ménage à trois, noone cares about the comics, The most loved stories on fimfiction are also the most hated, converting shitty greentext into shitty prose and dumping a canon character into anon's place, prequels to Nightmare Stars Revenge, voiceguy threatens to narrate The Chase unless we can keep him sedated with booze, and why does Twilight always get turned into a mexican in humanized artwork?

Tired of the same old 'Human goes to Equestria to fuck his herd of underage waifus' formula? Burnt out after reading that Fallout crossover? Well, we've compiled the best of the worst in order to bring you our absolute average!

this is most like ly not the place for this, but does anyone knoe the name of a fic im trying to find?
The fic is AU equestria, where humans are slaves to ponies. Twilight's family purchases one of these slaves, and names him gray (i think). yadda yadda, years pass and gray has feelings for twilight and vice versa, which is bad cause slaves and all that. That's all I can remember besides the fact that shinning was the main antagonist for this fic, and was racist towards humans and gray. Help would be appreciated greatly

Quick question: has Starlight ever teleported in the show before?
>>
>>25753687
I don't think so, but seeing what she's capable of, I think teleporting is well within her limits.
>>
>>25753904
Actually, her not teleporting works out for me. There's a few scenes I want to write where things could be solved easily by having the characters teleport, and I don't want people asking "why doesn't Starlight just teleport?"
>>
>>25754194
Maybe just tell them teleporting wastes a high amount of magic, too much for some situations.

There was a thing about a law for teleportation. I'd see the graph as a "partie entière" or a parabole with a positive A variable.
>>
>>25750437
>creating your own wiki so you can keep the shitty details about your shitty fic straight
You say that like it's any challenge at all, mediawiki is just throwing a folder at an apache server and most other wikis are even easier. Hell, dokuwiki even comes with it's own miniapache server that just werks.
>>
>>25754210
Except that there will be situations where that expenditure would be worth it, but would ruin the suspense.

I'm trying to write a Mission:Impossible/A-team/Charlie's Angel style story with Starlight as a member of a task force that does secret missions and stuff, and I don't want her using teleportation to bypass some of the security systems they might want to hack into. I could put anti-teleportation barriers up everywhere, but not having her be able to teleport makes things easier.
>>
>>25754247
Just think of teleportation, dude.
It is a spell that:
>forcefully shoves you through spacetime to another place irregardless of physical possibilities
>produces a fuckton of light
>produces a fuckton of noise
>needs prior knowledge of the destination to work
It could only work as an emergency getaway spell.
>>
>>25754247
I think her not being able to teleport would be pretty unrealistic, seeing she apparently has the same amount of power as Twilight, during that fight scene.

Maybe have her having to concentrate for a few instants before teleportation, and that this leaves her vulnerable?

On the other hand, how did SG get into the secret operation thing? Not saying it's bad, I'm writing a similar thing.
>>
>>25754286
Twilight decides to form a team of Unicorns with Attitude in order in order to protect Equestria from threats against Harmony. She recruits Sunset, Starlight, Trixie, Moondancer, and Radiant Hope and sends them out on missions against bad guys. The whole thing is a bit of a spoof of 80's action movies, so things like logic and realism will be set aside in favor of explosions, over-the-top fight scenes, and one-liners.

Each chapter will probably be an "episode," with the team hunting down some bad with some bond-villain style agenda, infiltrating places and fighting waves of mooks until they finally they face off against the bad guy in his lair located underground/underwater/in a volcano/in space/all of the above. The bad guy will try to kill them using his signature weapon of a crossbow/a golden wingblade/a killsat/sharks equipped with laser weapons, but the good guys will ultimately triumph through cunning and firepower. I'm starting the story "in medias res," with the team already formed and doing missions, and probably won't explain how they actually got together until the inevitable episode where they have to face off against the firrst villain they defeated while flashbacks to their first mission keep interrupting the story.
>>
>>25754382
>located underground/underwater/in a volcano/in space/all of the abov

>Underground underwater volcano in space
Please do this
>>
>>25754382
>Recruits Trixie

Why? She's a cocky mare with a superiority complex, which we didn't even see display any superior powers.

>Radiant Hope

Who is he/she?

The plot sounds good, but you should probably explain how they got together earlier, maybe in some kind of vague prologue.
>>
>>25754394
I will eventually. This is a secondary project I'll probably abandon and go back to multiple times between working on more serious (non-pony) stories, but if I do finish an episode I'll post it. Currently, they're fighting a cult of Nightmare Moon trying to revive her with an ancient ritual, so I could have the final battle be in a volcano located beneath an underground lake on the moon.
>>
>>25754382
>She recruits Sunset, Starlight, Trixie, Moondancer, and Radiant Hope

Is twilight some sort of unicorn supremacist?
>>
>>25754424
For the Trixie thing, I'm giving her a power level upgrade for her skills in illusion magic, so that she can sort of keep up with the others.

Radiant Hope is a character from the comics. She's Sombra's ex-girlfriend/possibly current girlfriend and a very powerful unicorn who was apparently on the way to becoming a Princess. I sort of threw her in on a lark but I might take her out if I can't fit her into the missions properly. Her Cuite Mark is a caduceus, so I'll give her a specialty in healing magic, and possibly make her an expert in defensive magic as well, in order to round out the team.

And I'm planning on writing some kind of A-team style intro voiceover to explain things a little at the beginning.
>>
>>25754437
This whole thing started as a joke about Twilight collecting foils, so that's why they're all unicorns. I suppose I could throw Lightning Dust in there or something too, but I kind of like the idea of an all-unicorn squad who are all really smart but have a penchant for solving problems through the application of superior firepower.

Should I write a good story or pander to fimfiction to get views and likes?
>>
>>25754984
both
>>
>>25754984

This >>25754990

The two aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, the things you need to do to write a good story and to write a popular story are mostly unrelated. The reason there's so little overlap between great fics and popular fics isn't because one precludes the other, it's because writing a great fic is hard, writing a popular fic is hard, and most people have enough trouble just doing one of those things, never mind both.

That's no excuse, though. You should try to do both, unless you're one of those spergs who don't care about quality/one of those "REAL artists" who don't care about popularity.
>>
>>25755077
But what, exactly, is popular? Let's assume that I am completely cognitively disassociated from the popular mentality of fimfiction.
>>
>>25755270
Just write shitty smut with a shitty title and a shitty cropped lewd picture. You'll get to the frontpage in no time.
And that wasn't a joke.
>>
>>25755270

Off the top of my head:

-Stories where the main character allows the reader to vicariously live out a power or sexual fantasy

-Stories which tackle a philosophical problem in a straightforward and unambiguous manner which is easily accessable to all readers

-Stories which contain a major elements which most readers will have a personal connection to (e.g. video games, or dubstep)

-Stories whose plots are easily reducible to a single titular idea

Note that, although there are LOTS of shitty fics with the above elements, none of them are actually bad in and of themselves. For example, that last category includes great fics like Skywriter's "Princess Celestia Hates Tea."
>>
>>25754464
It's shipping [INSERT NEWLY INTRODUCED/REFORMED CHARACTER] with [INSERT SAID CHARACTER FRIEND/RANDOM PONY YOU LIKE/BLACK AND RED OC], writing smut about them and cropping lewd for the cover.

And yeah, don't forget to add "It's my first story pl0x be gentle" at the start of the synopsis, in the comments and everywhere you can, except in the author notes or an author's notes chapter.

Also, as >>25755357 said, writing about abortion/transexuality/non-heterosexuality/war/racism in an overly simplified black and white way, without forgetting to tell your reader why your opinion is always right.
>>
>>25755270
Porn and romance
Write these two well and you'll popular in every fandom, because that's what fans love the most.
>one of those "REAL artists" who don't care about popularity.
You know, there are people who do stuff because they enjoy it, without caring about exposure. In fact, these are the ones who become successful in the long run.
Write some love story about a girl and a vampire because I can't sleep at night. Get popular.
Write BDSM smut because I like it and it makes me horny and gathers to my fetishes. Get popular.
Write about wizard boys. Get popular.
You get the idea.
Shit writer masturbate over theme, idea, style, profundity, complexity.
Good writers just write.
>>
>>25755357
>Stories whose plots are easily reducible to a single titular idea
A good writer should be able to do this to a certain extent, both for books of their own and what they read.
I don't disagree with you, just wanted to say that.
>>25755425
>In fact, these are the ones who become successful in the long run.
Extremism of all kinds is bad.
A good writer needs to masturbate a bit over theme, idea and style at least, the other two are optional and depend on the particular story being writen. The little prince, for exameple, is relatively deep without being complex.
Then, when theme, idea, and style are decided, he needs to sit down and just write.

I think Anon meant that they become successful, but not necessarily good. It's like Past Sins and Chink Azura's fics becoming popular when they should have obviously been raising OPOC red flags.

>>
>>25755923

>>
>>25755923
Are you virgin?
Because the crux for successful smut in fimfiction is being virgin. The more obvious you've never been within six meters of the oposite sex the better.
>>
>>25755936
NO U!
>>
>>25755961
I'm actually not... What makes a clop popular, besides individual fetishes and whatnot?
>>
>>25755497
Good is entirely subjective.
People who read stuff like Past Sins, Twilight, 50 Shades think that stuff is good writing, and consider other stuff like Pynchon and Joyce unreadable and pretentious.
Quality of literature is entirely a matter of personal perception. Of course you can call people who like stuff that you consider as having "shit taste", but it still is your personal opinion, not an eternal idea from the platonic world of ideas.
>>
>>25756057
The question is, how do I write something that I would like that would still fit with what everyone else thinks is good?
>>
>>25756038
>I'm actually not
You dun guffed.
If you aren't virgin you can't be horsefamous. Cease and desist, profane being, for this is a place for those of Pure Hearths and Self-Managed Penises.
>>25756076
The answer for that is faaaaaaar too ample. And the right question is "How do I writer something that I like like and some other people would like too", because invariably someone will utterly despise what you did and truly believe you deserve to die for doing it.
There is good writing -which can save a bad plot-, good plot -which can save bad writing-, good slice of life, good character development, good character portrayal, good depth of characters, good mental images, and many things besides. Just write.
>>

The two that come to the top of my mind, are these:

----
>Dreams and Disasters
http://www.fimfiction.net/story/89598/dreams-and-disasters
>99k words

Cadence realises that Rainbow Dash has a crush on Twilight, and since she doesn't have a kingdom to run or anything, Celestia and her send the two on a journey accross thinly veiled allusions to European countries, hoping the two of them get together.
There's a sequel but I haven't read it yet.
----
>Eyes On You
http://www.fimfiction.net/story/7531/eyes-on-you
>148k words

One day, Twilight hears a cry of help in the forest, when she goes to invesitgate, she founds a battered Trixie being attacked by Timberwolves. What follows is the birth of a strong friendship, and perhaps something more. But, why has Trixie returned to Ponyville?
Well, she wants Twilight to be her partner in the Manehattan Magic Display, Equestria's most prestigious show magic expo.
This fic has, in my opinion, probably one of the most satisfying build-ups to a relationship I've read in ponyfic. Ant the tournament itself is very enjoyable.

Why not mix it up? There's no reason you can't mine the show/comics for some pegasi (Lightning Dust, Cirrus Cloud, etc.) or earth ponies (Maud, Cherry Blossom, etc.). It would certainly open up the plot and character interaction potential.

>>25755270
There's a lot of things that Fimfiction's audience likes:
>fics inspired by/based on the most recent episode
>clop with "mainstream" fetishes*
>comedy/slice of life oneshots
>a sequel to an already popular story
>a new take on an existing fanfic genre (warfic, TCB, evil!Twilight, x becomes a changeling, etc.)
>a parody/deconstruction of a recent popular story
>a totally new plot that's well done

>>25756076
Find a genre (comedy, romance, etc.) you enjoy writing and try out some short (>7500 words) oneshots in that genre. Comedy and SoL are preferred, but Dark oneshots can also get featured, especially if it's 2spooky as opposed to edgy.

Looking over my roster, I realized that there's a lot of overlap and pointless characters in my current team. How about this instead?

Sunset Shimmer
Starlight Glimmer
Lightning Dust
Gilda

I'd like to round things out with one or two members who don't have wings or magical horns, but I'm having trouble deciding who would fit into this team.

Iron Will doesn't feel right for some reason, mostly due to his sheer size and physical differences, which would make it difficult to fit him into the stealthier missions, and I don't want to keep having to write a special role for him every time.

Maud could work, especially since she could balance out all the hotheadedness on the team, but I'm having trouble finding a motivation for her being on the team, since she's supposed to be studying rocks somewhere, and it might be difficult to have her "click" with the rest of the team.

I want to avoid using OCs, since I think it's funnier to see canon charscters doing all these crazy things, so now I'm a bit stuck. I can't even think of a comic character that would work,
>>

She could be on the science team. She's the geology expert.

"For this mission you'll need to infiltrate an underground lair. You'll have to drill through several layers of thick sediments... and igneous rock... before... reaching the... bedrock."

"Maud, are you okay?"

"Shhh... give her a minute."
>>

That could work. Accelerate her degree a bit so that she's already graduated, then have Twilight hire her for this team.

>>

>>
>>25767327
I was actually planning on having Bon Bon rejoin whatever spy agency she was part of and show up as one of the recurring characters whenever the team needs to team up with the agency.

Also, I'm having too much fun with Maud's deadpan.
>>
>>25767480
You would have to find a way to get the agency back then. Bon Bon stated herself that Celestia shut it down, demanding it never be talked of.
>>
>>25767495
Well, according to the show, the reason they shut down the agency was the Bugbear escaping from Tartarus. With the Bugbear gone, there's no reason why they couldn't start things up again. There could even be a chapter where they're understaffed from setting up and Twilight sends her team in to help out for a bit.
>>
>>25767532
>With the bugbear gone, there's no reason why they could start things again

FTFY

No more monster threat means no reason for the agency to exist. With the elements here for magic mcguffin, Equestria literally has no reason to finance such an agency.

The reason they shut down the agency is probably because they have failed at their job, in this case, catching the bugbear. Keeping six ponies together and alert is much cheaper than financing an entire secret service organisation.

I'm basically playing the agency off, in my fic, as a passive defense, to prevent the use of the elements altogether, by finding and hopefully destroying threats at their source. I wouldn't go with Bon Bon working in the agency, but rather her just going to help Twalot from time to time.
>>
>>25767585
Well, one of the premises of my fic is that there are plenty of threats out there in addition to the stuff that the EoH solve, and it's not always practical send them out after every little thing, which is where these secondary teams and agencies come in.

And I prefer to interpret the shutdown as the Bugbear having some information that endangered them all, requiring the whole agency to go underground. Also, since it was after Bon Bon specifically, its possible that they sent her deep cover, burnt all the evidence of the original agency, then founded a new one in a new location without telling Bon Bon, since there was no way she could go back until after the Bugbear was taken care of.

Again, there's many ways of interpreting that episode, especially since they didn't give much detail. I like the idea of having an actual secret agency doing spy missions for the Crown that's currently active and I think that provides more fodder for my story.
>>
>>25767757
>Monster can endanger a complete agency, requiring to shut it down completely

That's a bit far-fetched. Governmental intelligence agencies are so vast and organized you won't have a single factor put the whole in danger. I have no problem with resurrecting the agency, as I do the same, but I am a bit triggered by Hollywood-esque stuff about the military and intelligence services.

But that's just me. Fimfags will love it, I'm sure.
>>
>>25767956
I mean, shutting an agency because of a single failure in general seems far-fetched unless it's a really dangerous target in the first place. And even then, canning an entire agency is a really big deal. It's probably easier to think of Bon Bon's statement as shorthand for saying that they only shut down the monster hunting part of the agency, and left the rest of it running, and then later revived that part of it under a different name and structure since it's probably really important to have a division like that around.
>>
>>25768072
Either that, or tha particular incident was the last in a long string of blunders that ultimately lead to the disintegration of the agency.
>>
>>25768072
Another explanation that I was going to use in another fic is that the Bugbear had someone high-up in the agency helping him escape, and that was the reason why they had to shut everything down, since everything was compromised.

Really, given how little detail we have about the agency, there's a host of possible explanations for what could have happened.
>>
>>25768091
That. It's basically what's happening in New Harmony.

Phoenix (My name for the former organization) does well, ut starts its fall into decadence and incompetence one or two decades before its temporary shutdown. Its director promises Celestia the new recruits, including Bon Bon, will live up to her expectations, when put on the Bugbear case.

When they don't, Celestia has enough, and considering Twalot and her friend just redeemed NMM, doesn't see any need to keep Phoenix up and running.

This works if you only consider the organisation as a pure monster-hunting one, but I guess your explanation also works considering your PoV.
>>
>>25767060

From personal experience the CMC are very difficult to write together as a group. The dynamic can be difficult to pin down unless you're familiar with the nuances of their characterization and having a good balance of dialogue/screen time for them to shine is difficult to pull off. That and it can be hard to write humor with them effectively.
>>
>>25768487

That works. The whole business with Bon Bon having to go into hiding opens up a bunch of tantalizing questions, though. Is it actually the bugbear she's hiding from, or someone else? Does she have some kind of relationship with the bugbear, is it seeking revenge, or is it some kind of Pavlovian thing where she trained it, or what...? I've been wondering about that part.

Basically any crossover with a sci-fi franchise will do that. "Oh no, warp drive malfunctioned, now we're stuck in this weird solar system where the orbits are all fucked up."

A few that come to mind in particular:
>"The Thessalonica Legacy" (Battletech) - I remember liking it a lot, but at the time I also liked Past Sins, so maybe take that with a grain of salt.
>"A Foul Light Shines" (WH40k) - I actually remember nothing about it except it's by an author who has done other good scifi.
>"Outside the Reaching Sky" - The aforementioned good scifi. Not quite what you asked for, since pones go to space and meet the humans there (along with various other aliens).
>"My Little Apprentice" - Human turned pony becomes Twilight's apprentice. It's a bit hard to follow but the overall plot is something about multiple human factions from postapocalyptic shithole Earth wanting to colonize Equestria so they don't die as a result of living in a postapocalyptic shithole.
>"Falling Stars" (or something like that) - Battletech dudes show up on Equestria. Other Battletech dudes show up to fight them. Features missles and lasers and big stompy mechs all over the place.

Characterization's going to be harder to do given the non-show-like genre you're planning on doing. The hard part's not giving each one their personality. That's easy since the show defines them quite a bit. All you need to do is watch episodes centered on specific characters to get a good idea of how they act and talk.

The hard part is "how do they act and talk in a grimdark lovecraft plot, while still being the same characters?"

>>25763123

>>
>>25771404

>>
>>25774337
I've kept mostly current on it.

Honestly its pretty hit or miss. Some parts are actually pretty good, some are pants on head retarded. Though to be fair, a lot of the earlier retardedness was retconned out and the offending chapters rewritten into something better (allegedly- I havent gone back to read the rewrites).
Quality also fluctuates depending on what arc you're reading. When he was off doing his own thing its was usually fairly entertaining. In the current arc hes stuck with the element bearers and his opinions on them run from despise to ambivalence and its starting to drag

Clop is mediocre and even the writer admits that theres only so many ways to phrase 'it jams its penor in and wiggles about until it spooges' before it starts getting stale

It doesnt go out of its way to advertise it, but its actually one of the longer spanning fics I've seen. Most half million word fics I've read will cover a time frame of less than 6 months. DoaM spans something like 7 years from start to current and the protagonist has actually matured somewhat over the course of that time (which again is somewhat unusual)

I could do a longer write up on it, but if youre the type that likes HiEs then its at least worth a shot. If it ever finishes I'll probably go back and give it a full reread

What's your opinion on songs and short poems in prose?
>>
>>25775364
if you can compose your own lyrics that arent shit, you should be doing something better than writing fanfiction

if you are just copypastaing or ponyfying nickleback songs you should hang yourself
>>
>>25775399
So Tolkien should have lead an orchestra instead, then?
Of course Tolkien wrote fanfiction, what are you talking about? He's a well known trekkie.
>>
>>25775364
That they should either be so well written that they're worth the inclusion, or so short and forgettable that they won't bother me. Poems I can usually tolerate, songs only if they're actually well written. They often break up the prose and the narrative too much, plus most people just can't write it well.
>>
>>25775364

Hard to do well, and even harder to include in a way that won't seem try hard. You're in a tough spot to begin with because most published literature lacks poems and songs (because they're hard to do well even for professional writers).

That said, they're a great exercise to practice your writer. They're also something sorely lacking in fantasy, and if you're going with a fantasy themed story I'd suggest including them. Songs and poems are great vehicles to do world building and exposition without weighty walls of text. Tolkien was a genius at it, and you should read through LOTR to see how he used poems and song to convey long backstories.
>>
>>25775816
Idea:
Using songs as a measurement of time.
For example:
You're having fun merry-making, bottle of underwatered grog in your hand and the other banging at the bar table. Off behind you, you hear the workings of alcohol, spouting loudly and coherently enough to carry past walls, "Fifteen men on the dead man's chest!"

Soon enough, your glass seems quite emptier than should be, and you look around, not yet weary enough to forget the material worries of your tab and rather seeking half-finished drink.
"Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!"

Just as you pipe up to get a bottle refill, something hard hits your shoulder. You turn around, seeking for a target of your wrath.
"Drink and the devil had done for the rest!"

On the ground you see something metallic - ye-gads, a flask!
"Yo-ho-"
But then, a stirring. Just behind you, on the table.
"ho-ho,"
You turn your head. Damn it, that's my drink!
"and a..."
Your hand isn't as fast. The bottle whizzes by, down a clearing of any bottle.
"bottle of..."
Not long, and you hear a loud, wet KHRACK.
"rum."

Better get to licking.
>>

What the hell would a public speaking or persuasion cutie mark look like? I'm probably not even gonna mention it in my green but it's driving me crazy that I can't visualize my villain character properly.

Actually, I read a bit more and I know for a fact that he posted a shorter story on fanfic.net, but it ended really shittily, despite being so good in the middle imo. He must have thought so too and rewrote it.

Kinda like an ito story now that I think about it. Kinda unsettling.

I can't believe I'm getting anxious over whether or not it would be considered inaccurate to say that a cold-blooded reptile to huddle under a rock in night time for warmth. I say this because I have dialogue where characters (both of whom are main protagonists) who are supposed to know their shit say that. I'm fairly sure that's the truth (at least that's what my cursory research and personal experience tell me, and it might depend on the species). I know, artistic license and willing suspension of disbelief and all that, but still. Your piece of fiction can have magical unicorn and pegacorns and rainbow factories and the audience won't bat an eye, but god forbid you get a minor piece of zoology wrong.

Last chapter. I'll start posting it to Fimfic and DeviantART tomorrow.

I consider it to be kind of pointless--especially for songs. Since there's no music or beat and the only way to get one is to link to Youtube.

I'm not a big fan of poetry anyway, so I'm bias against it.

>how hated Flash is
Or how unknown it is. The last big rendition of it was in 1980.

>how does it work?
Standard fanon is Equestria's tidally locked and requires the princesses to either rotate the planet or literally move the sun and moon.

>Are there other planets?
Pic related, which is a vector of the Canterlot throne room windows. It suggests there's at least a Saturn closer to their sun and that the sun is singular.

>heavily involves a fetish that you, the writer, know nothing about
I'm really tempted to write a oneshot that parodies weird fetishes by having it center on "bellybutton worship" and devote most of the story to describing Dash's bellybutton in excruciating detail.

>>25782507
>Bleedy Coon
B-Bleedin, is that you?

Left some comments. Male rape/forced TF aren't my things so no luck there. Tense issues abounded, so I recommend you always read over what you've written to see how it sounds. And since it's supposed to be a fetish story, it doesn't hurt to really pile on the descriptive elements for the fetish scenes.

Checked.

About how many soldier-in-Equestria fics are written by actual military people? I'm fairly certain that most of those things are cawadoody kiddos being Sergeant Major General Super Ultra Secret Elite Ghost Spartan Commando Gary Tzu, but I would actually be interested in reading about a Marine self-inserting into Equestria given he didn't go too crazy with the wish fulfilment and his military experience actually served the plot in a meaningful way (since that's pretty much the only reason I'd be interested in such a thing in the first place).
>>
>>25785659
Funny enough, there's actually multiple stories I've read on fanfic.net by actual marines who wrote themselves dying in combat and that's how they got there, which is as grim as it sounds but nevertheless they exist. Most are what you described though.

...Because you upstart kids today don't respect your cultural history enough to even know about FLASH MOTHERFUCKING GORDON, you probably also don't recall the absolute madness of the heso vs. heso-nashi wars when Cure Black's navel got covered by her costume in the second season of Pretty Cure!

The namefagging isn't too bad for me, it's the blatant attention whoring that pisses me off. Especially because I know Jetfire CAN make posts that are of at least marginal value to the thread (basically everything he posted during BTWOE writing was at least okay).

Even his post ITT could easily have been written in a way that promotes discussion.
>>25771960
>Please yell at me until I get off my lazy fucking ass and write "Time and Tines."
The only way anything of value will come from this post is if people ignore the first 3/4 of the sentence and then indulge the poster's attention seeking by asking what the new fic's about. It would be a much less shitty post if it had gone something like this instead:
>How do you get motivated to write? I've been meaning to start a new fic about blah blah but I keep procrastinating because of blah.
This gives people at least two different things to talk about (motivation + whatever the fic's about) that aren't the poster himself.
