Worse, as there's nobody to ground these characters, or the viewer, quite as effectively. Applejack has the most relative and stable life to the audience vs the other main characters. She's less neurotic and more level headed, which means that when she's faced with conflict in the context of being a cartoon for little kids, it's usually not as interesting and more difficult to believe, because it's exaggerated to some degree, which conflicts with her usual character presence, as she's so rational and together. Without her, the other casts problems would be less interesting, because there would be less normalcy to compare and contrast it with. Applejack is thinking what you're thinking, and that's why her role is important. She is you, in the magical land of talking ponies.
