Early rifles were not commonly used for war because of their need for maintenance and slow reloading times, but they did exist and they were every bit as accurate as a modern rifle.
They were less powerful, being closer to a modern magnum revolver round in muzzle energy, but within 300 yards it didn't make much difference.
