I think Wine's vocal critics are hilariously self-deceptive. From any outside point of view Pot Luck is far closer to a whore than Wine is. But we know and share Pot's motivations, while everyone assumes Wine is just in it for the physical pleasures.
It's the classic judgement of others by actions but ourselves by intent.

And that's well and good. You can describe a character's lifestyle as normal, perhaps they even value peace and simplicity. It's especially effective when juxtaposed with the environment and other characters.
But for heaven's sake, you can't have a character's personality or character as normal or plain, especially when that's the protagonist. That doesn't make for an interesting read at all.
Flaws and strengths, personality traits and quirks, what really pushes his buttons, where does he find happiness more than anywhere else, what does he value, what things doesn't he understand, stuff like that.

Okay, dungeon delver quest guy here, just tallying up results from last thread that I missed due to sleep. Pretty interesting read! I'm always up for a spot of circle jerking, what a fantastic time to spend the afternoon, but I'm new as fuck, and have only read Entrapment, Don't Fuck Up, and chunks of 11-54 and Hijack. I saw a couple of anon's suggesting to have Nadine in the party, which I've humoured. As for the direct suggestions I got Earth Pone dragon-slayer Fighter, Racist Unicorn Wizard, Barbarian/Paladin Hybrid, and the last two were implied Bat pone ranger and ... a fucking luchador.
