This is a project that aims to actually create an album of music from /mlp/. It'll be a compilation of sorts, potentially containing everything from originals, remixes, collaborations, etc. The past efforts never came to fruition, so we're trying once again. If you create music, sing, rap, create art, write lyrics, have ideas, or just want to participate somehow, jump right in, and email [email protected] who you are, what you do, contact info (May include preferred email, YouTube, SoundCloud, ect), and anything else you want to say.
>What kind of music is the album going to contain?
Virtually anything is acceptable. This means complete originals, remixes, collaborations, soundscapes, etc.
Simply create a folder for your work within the proper folder within the Dropbox (more info in the Google Doc). For example, music goes in the music folder. Your folder will be used for sharing ideas, posting demos, etc. For your finished product, you may submit a mastered and/or unmastered WAV or AIFF, and simply drop it into your folder, indicating it's the final one.

Yes, we need artists as well for the album cover. Artwork will be submitted to the Dropbox in the same way as the music. Decisions on how which piece will be chosen will be arranged soon. Artwork for individual songs is possible for those that want it.

Ok, so, time for productivity and actual progress, folks!
It was decided by the core community of this thread that we need a release date to motivate ourselves to get shit done. We decided to finish this album before 7/11/2016, right in the middle of a summer. And it's a Daydream Anatomy's birthday. As a bonus.
This album already have something like 30 songs in it. THIS IS BIG. But vast majority of them are single contributions to it. We decided to focus on solid collaborations for the rest of time we have here.
Thus, we have Synthfag's stuff. It was here since the very beginning, time to get this done, by working together.
I work with "Plays 2" thing now.
SG would take "Still going".
TwiFi aka Lexi aka Bunner would take "Streets".
This is a collaborations, so, for instance, as soon as i get main structure of a song done, i'll post some tabs and demo mp3 for everybody to play, record, arrange, and basically mess around with. I think SG and Lexi would do something similar. At the very least i would need an acoustic guitar contribution from Harmonica or someone else.

I am very experienced with playing piano, guitar (electric and acoustic) as well as synths and sound design within synths like Sylenth and Massive, and I can do music production and mixing/mastering in my DAW. Update: I scrapped what I was doing with the main riff, simply because it was feeling more like thrash then Death, also because it was in D, which I wasn't happy with. So I rewrote the chorus and body riffs so that they're in C. I don't often toot my own horn, but shit sounds fucking HEAVY. Possibly gonna get Reagan (my bands lead guitarist) to do the solos because I'm shit at sweep picking. I'll try to get a sample out but don't hold your breath. Actually just don't hold your breath in general, it's usually not a good idea

First of all, can you please make a demo mp3 of what you have right now without this vocaroo-tier quality?
And multitrack of original tracks without any major effects like reverbs, delays or something like that.
What i'm trying to do now is to record a rhythm patterns, chord progression, rough guitar solos to build a song's basic foundation, i'm building on what Harmonica managed to transcribe https://www.dropbox.com/s/5toyds9a21p3aot/Plays%202.gp5?dl=0 and your initial demo. I want to feel how ending will sound before we start piling up arrangement. Once i make a progress it'd be great to have you layer down some synths and stuff.

There is also second (or first, chronologically) version of that theme, YB&HF.

I'll work on get what I can multitracked. Still gotta dig around my drive for the original samples used in the project. Once I get them located and replaced, I will get the multitracks in dropbox. I have an exported version of the sample sitting in my old dropbox account that I can drop in, but a lot of the samples I used in that song were vocaroo quality, so I did the best that I could with what was provided.
I'll check out that collab as well when I get a chance.
My big goal this time around is to not get myself too piled up with projects and ideas for this board. I stall out and get overwhelmed pretty easily, so moderation and all that jazz. I'll make it a point to show up either on Skype or on the thread at the very least once a week. That'll give me time to grab a project/task, work with it, then provide an actual product next visit.

MLP PLAYS2 has been multitracked to Music>synthfag>MLP PLAYS2 to the best of my ability.
Some things just aren't cooperating with this old project on my new setup. For one, I don't have the heavier drums I added on top of the acoustic drums anymore. The preset on my EMX is long gone.
Second, the acoustic drums towards the end are just...I don't even know what it's trying to do, but I did what I could to fix it well enough to get the general idea.
Something may not be the same with the string section, but I could be wrong.
And MIDI files for the piano part and my EMX drums are in there as well, or will be soon.

This is a part that makes initial harmony, so it is crucial to have it right now, but it'd be great to have someone re-record it when composition would be finished. Bass guitar is sampled, i can borrow a real one from my friend but i'm gonna post multitrack tommorow, so someone could compose something better than simple boring 8ths, record and present their own bass guitar part here.

First thing - we need cool trombone (or saxophone, but i doubt we have one in thread).
It'd be great to have real trombonist - that'd have a tremendous impact on quality of this song.
Then we need good and groovy bass part instead of what we have right now. I'll post composed tabs for it tommorow (i'll keep that bass part anon posted in mind when i'll be at it). Or he or anybody else can post his ideas for it - but keep drums as your first groove reference, not acoustic guitar or anything else, bass need to work closely with drums part! If drums play 8ths, dont push hard with 16ths, be groovy!
All in all, everybody, please think of how you can contibute to that song. I'll leave a lot off free space to be filled with your arrangement ideas in that multitrack i'll post tommorow. This was a mashup of random ideas from everybody in this thread when Synthfag did that demo, it basically start idea of this album, now it becomes a very cool piece and i like it, but this song must remain as collaboration, not just "Anoridan took it and made something of his own from it".

Yes, I am pleased with where this is going. It's on a good path.
Critiques/Ideas:
•I think keeping the intro as is, but with double tracked, bright acoustic guitars will sound better, at least, in my opinion. Then, during the verses, the overdriven electric guitar comes in. Maybe even just making the intro not so dark and low.
•I like how the guitars get heavy for the chorus. Helps progress the energy of the song.
•I don't know if it will happen, and I don't necessarily expect it to, but I'd like to hear that lead guitar and trumpet switched out with vocals. Or, maybe, even using them to augment a vocal part. Again, that means we need a singer/lyrics.
•On a related note, I wanna hear that brass huge and stereo. Right now, it seems a little weak, but that can be part of mixing later. That could work just as well as using vocals.
•I miss that synth build in the intro from the original. If possible, adding it in will be nice (maybe use some reverb on it too, mixing wise)
•I like what's going on at :50-1:58, but that sounds like it should be extended and used at the end. The calm bridge before the huge chorus with the original outro solo
•At :50, instead of going into that calm part, going into a heavy chorus I thing will help progress that song. After that, using that groovy bass part half a minute into the original song could work.
•I can also hear the 2:01-2:13 part being extended and used as an outro that fades out. Kind of like, big huge chorus thing, then the calm ending
