Remember when new MAS episodes used to generate threads? Let's revisit those glory days. Hot off the presses: new episode (currently unlisted): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAUYhUvhs2o

Oooh, sweet!
I need to catch up on the series.
How did you come by this unlisted marvel, OP?

But the writing is still good aside from that.

I contribute to his Patreon. He posts MAS episode links to Patreon supporters as soon as they're finished, then makes them publicly available the following month.

And before somebody complains, Greg encourages Patreon supporters to share the links with whoever they want, so you're welcome.

I'm happy to see him back in the swing of things. The problems with YouTube's content ID shenanigans made it look pretty dire for a few months, but that obstacle wound up strengthening the show by forcing him to learn to animate things himself. I prefer this new iteration of MAS in many ways to the old one(s). The freedom afforded by original animation has greatly expanded what he can do in terms of writing, to the show's benefit.

I don't want to get into FiW vs. MAS. I enjoy both shows.

But, let's face is, FiW was a flash in the pan. Looking back on it, even if the writing is sharp and some of the ideas are clever, it was a very low-budget, minimal effort on many fronts. It showcases a minimum of creativity and talent. In time, it could've grown into something truly good, but it died after a few episodes because the creators lacked the discipline and determination to persevere.

MAS, on the other hand, has faced all the same challenges and more, but Greg overcame them and made a better show for it. He's been doing this for years now. At a certain point, comparing MAS to FiW just becomes farcical. FiW isn't even in the same league and hasn't been for some time.

I've actually been watching and re-watching a lot of the MA as of late.

To me, it will always be the best MLP parody series out there. The jokes are always well-delivered, makes sense, and make me laugh. The characters have been re-worked in a new way, while still being somewhat true to the original renditions (with the exception of Pinkie, but I'm not complaining). And finally, the show always had a sort of appeal to me that kept me coming back. Perhaps it's the slight political comentary, or the darker jokes, but I can always rely on the MA series to put me in a good mood.

It is a shame though that Greg got Content IDed pretty hard though. In some ways I think the whole fiasco was for the better, and in others it's hampered the show. The ability for Greg to completely re-tool episodes as he sees fit is a creative blessing not only to him, but to the fans. Some of the re-toolings fit the style of the series much better than he could ever do with the episode's stock footage (such as his Dragonshy parody). Other times, I think the creative freedom he's allowed (and the fact that he's put himself on a time crunch) has lead to some pretty rushed episodes. I feel like his Bridle Gosep parody is a good example of that. The entire episode feels hollow overall, and the ending doesn't help in the matter. This was kind of an issue in the old series, but that was mainly jokes being rushed, not the entire plot itself.

Speaking of humor. While I still find the series to be hilarious, I don't feel like it's quite reached the peak of the older series quite yet. Thus far, nothing has really made me laugh like I did hearing Twilight exclaim she was already nude in his old Bridle Gosep parody. It's still funny though, so I can't really complain.

Overall though, I really like Greg as a content creator. His Personal Times are all interesting to listen to, and his Banana republic stuff is always fun to watch, be it let's plays or in the main series.
>>
>>25629990
It's funny that you've lobbed a soft criticism at Bridle Gossip. That's possibly my favorite of the negative series. It's up there with Look Before You Sleep.
>>
>>25630033
I also enjoy the minus Look Before you sleep. More than I do the orginal series version. By quite a margin in fact.

Bridle Gosep isn't bad by any means. I just have my issues with it. It's one of those ones where I enjoy the original series version more than I do the minus series version.

Something about the pacing of the minus episode just turned me off. Felt a tad too rushed in my opinion. I also hated the ending. Twilight just swinging Dash at Zecora, who disappears in puff just felt really unsatisfying to me.
>>
>>25630080
I might also wanna mention that Bridle Gosep is my favorite episode in the original series, so that may just be bias on my end.
>>
>>25630080
Not >>25630033, but BG is one of my favorites from the negative series too, mainly because of how on-point Rarity's dialogue was. Also, I thought Twi using Dash as a weapon was hilarious, even if it cheated us out of Zecora.
>>
bump for more MAS discussion. I feel like there were more threads back in 2013 dedicated to a specific theory or a specific idea, or specific fan work, than there are now. I don't mind neo-/mlp/ by any means, it's just I used to browse and think "huh, that's an interesting theory, I'll see what people are saying about it".
>>
>>25630440
I share your observation, minus the "new-/mlp/ is okay" bit.

That's why I thought I'd be proactive. If we can have 20 greentext prompt threads a day, no reason we can't have MAS thread once a month when a new episode comes out.

I enjoyed seeing the premise of Feeling Pinkie Keen play out in the MAS universe, where Twilight has no reason to trust Pinkie, every reason to assume it's all an elaborate ruse, and never experiences a "religious conversion" at the end, as happened in the actual show.

And I'm a word nerd, so all of the conflating of psychics and psychiatrists got a giggle out of me.

"You're not going to get me this time, you little pink fuckOUCH" got me too.
>>
>>25630822
I think MAS stands out among mlp parodies simply because Greg is a smart guy who tosses little smart-guy details into it. I mean, I know the "mentally advanced" bit is a joke, but it's not far off.

People who recommend it usually don't mention the fact that first three, maybe even four episodes are abysmal. Greg steps his game up with the fifth and from sixth onward it's fucking great.
Reboot was a bit of a step down but he's getting better with every episode.

I'm with this. FiW gave up at the slightest inkling of conflict and hard work. MAS has persevered in the face of trouble and continues to produce thought-provoking dry humor that entertains people. FiW dried up long ago.
>>
>>25632764
Yes, basically. Stuff happened and measures were taken. As time goes on, Greg has begun to animate more and more without the help of the previous animator of RDP, yes. He is getting decently good for the time between episodes to produce said animations.
>>
>>25632913
speaking of RDP, is their EG parody still in progress or did they drop that?
>>
>>25632917
I always hear conflicting rumors.
>>
>>25632917
Last I heard, the monkey version of EG was canceled because while he still thinks monkeys are funny, he's too involved with his other projects to really make the EG parody happen. It's too lengthy of an individual project to be able to dedicate full attention to.
>>
>>25629051
Thanks man, appreciated.
>>
Oh hey thanks for posting the link, OP, much appreciated. I usually see the whole episode on the streams but it's always nice to finally see it in one piece.

>>25632917
EG parody is on hold, the parts that are done are still there but it's just too much to do and Petirep by that time was also burned out on pones. IIRC last time Greg talked about it the outcome was that it may sitll happen someday, but the chances are very low.
But hey, we're getting The Star in Yellow instead, soon. Yes.

It amuses me that both Greg and M.A. Larson have complained that Fluttershy is the most difficult to write for, and that in both cases they nevertheless write for her very well.

He's getting better at animating. This is one of the few channels that I still really dig.
>>
>>25637936
Same. So many people have come and gone since 2010, but he's still plugging away.

I wish he'd continue the Legacy of Kain let's play, though it's good to see MAS back on a regular production schedule again.
>>
I wonder if Pinkie's powers are connected to the Lovecraftian monsters in the series.
>>
>>25638789
See, that's a good speculation, but I'm not entirely convinced her powers are genuine.

That's a nice thing about the episode. He's playing with the apparent contradiction in the source material, that a pony demonstrating magic powers would somehow be incongruous with the setting and be subject to skepticism, but leaving it open to question whether this version of Pinkie is indeed magic in some sense or if she is playing an elaborate ruse. Both are possibilities and that tension throws us back on the original episode and it's questions/problems.

This is the result of good satire.
>>
I really should make a pony account, so that I can subscribe to stuff like this and not worry about a power level leak. I know you can make your subscriptions private, but I'm not convinced that it's 100% private.

>>25640104
>>25640214
Thanks for the compliments. It's really good to see the positive response for this video. I hope that I could provide some content to make this hiatus a little better than the last.
>>25640225
As for content ID, I will continue giving "animation" to the positive series regardless even if it means uploading it somewhere else. This is purely a hobby and I do not plan to monetize or ask for money since I have a guaranteed job once I graduate.
>>
>>25640335
I wasn't insinuating that you were trying to make money or that you should. The problem with the original videos is that YouTube took them down due to their reliance on Hasbro's assets. I'd love to be able to watch these videos whenever, so if they're just going to get taken down again, that would suck.
>>
>>25640452
I know that, but it is my first line of defense as I believe that monetization puts videos more at risk.
It is what it is, but if you really want, I could keep these videos unlisted and just provide links should they be hit by the content ID. That work for some time before the inevitable.

This series is garbage I used to frequent Greg's streams. He was clearly at a point where he had no fucking idea what he wanted to do with his life, he quit his pharm tech job and relied on his patreon and making these atrociously animated and voiced 'videos' since petreip left. You could just hear this despondency and depression Greg's voice during the streams as his fanbase dwindled. He tried some lets plays of fallout NV with his shitty rainbow dash voice that would garner like 100 views each video, he had made like 45 parts when I stopped paying attention. His streams would get like 20 people in at the most, about 12 were frequent listeners including myself. He would always have this fat whiny bitch on the skype call who drew furfag porn. There was this one autistic kid in the stream who wouldn't shut up about pokemon. I sent a commission to that fat bitch to draw the autistic pokefag getting fucked by a futa grannysmith for $30. Once I got the pic, I revoked my payment and posted it to derpibooru, the fat cunt flagged it and I was banned from the stream.
I mean look at greg's artistic skills, I'm no artistic but that's just aesthetically repulsive. RBDP was fun and interesting, this shit is just awful. Wonder how long till Greg realizes he can't milk his 15 minutes of autistic fame and goes back to a real job.

He's a kike at heart, he's still attempting to milk shekels from the dead cow that is his channel

Why does he still make the Personal Time With Greg videos? Almost all of those have negative subscriber changes.

He always seems drunk on self adulation always wearing a $50 dollar suit and intentionally talking like a 17 century aristocrat. But that's typical with people in this fandom, whats interesting to watch is his fall from grace and his futile attempts to regain relevance. This happens a lot with once A list celebrities who's relevance fades into obscurity and they do whatever it takes to regain that sense of importance. People can see this with Greg at a more magnified frame of reference because his sphere of influence never went outside the pony fandom. I've met Greg and have talked to people who know him personally. I'm not mad at all at him, but as I said before it's schadenfreude and curiosity

Anon, you realize this just makes you sound like a simpleton? There's nothing about his vocabulary or speech patterns that remotely resemble aristocracy or the 17th century. He sounds like a college kid who reads for fun. A lot of times, he'll mispronounce a name or word in a way that clearly comes from having only ever read it, rather than hearing it pronounced (e.g., his pronunciation of "Koch brothers" as "KA-TCH brothers").

Now that's fine I guess, but, in a abstract way I have always seen it as slightly cringy (ironically enough). I mean, most people seem to enjoy cringe because it makes their shitty life seem better in comparison. But I suppose that is just human nature to a extent. To each there own.

He is great
I know some content doesn't get a whole lot of views but I like his game videos.
Just watched his Mechwarrior ones, they are quite good

Oh wow I didn't know about these, this is a pleasant surprise. I only thought he did the Rainbow Dash presents stuff.

Adding to that I thought he stopped altogether when Twilicorn was announced/revealed.

Be sure to watch the original MAS too. I find episodes 5-12 the apex.

Here's all of them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6MQZ0nneqM&list=PLbr-HVHOIZZssp-9YhtFJB9Jtk91lMS8i

Wasn't there like some sidestory with Twilight being an alcoholic or something? Or that FlimFlam was writing his own canon?
>>

>>25646547
By the way, Episode 1 isn't very good. But after that he improves significantly.

>>25646575
MAS has its own sophisticated canon that is developed throughout the series.
>>
>>25646581
So are these new animated versions of MAS are effectively the same thing as the old versions just with a revised script?
>>
>>25646593
No, unless by "revised script" you mean "entirely new script". After they were taken down for content ID, he began learning how to draw, and made entirely new parodies of each episode.

Gawd Episode 1 is awful. It's too bad the first episode gives such a poor first impression. >>25646575 also, I don't consider Episode 1 "canon". The characters were still inchoate.
>>
>>25646593
They're a bit different. Because animating them is more time-consuming, they are usually only around 5 minutes long. And because there's no need to go by what exactly happens in the episode, negative series usually starts with only the premise of the episode and sometimes solves it in a very... alternative way. So no, not really. Only the beginning conflict is usually the same.
>>
>>25646575
By the way, MAS takes place in the same "universe" as RDP, so has the same canon.

Yeah the first two or three ones I feel like Greg was kinda finding himself, fleshing out the characters. Later on they get better and better, even the ones with only the screencaps (especially Green Isn't Your Color and Dog and Pony Show).
Oh and I must say I'm so glad the daiquiri joke stayed in the negative series as well.
