It's not just that, but yeah, it's part of it.
I think it mostly stems from A Canterlot Wedding, where people sorta remembered "oh, this is a show produced by Hasbro to sell toys, so it can get fucked over by terrible marketing ideas literally at any time", and that sort of killed the magic. Then we had the Crystal Empire, Twilight's coronation, everything related to Equestria Girls, the Rainbow Power, the castle, all which kept reinforcing the notion that Hasbro has a degree of control over the show.
I guess when Faust was at the helm, it was less obvious to us because the show was still brand new, and the only really big marketing things at that point were the Twinkling Balloon and Friendship Express, both which became naturally integrated into the show and still appear long after the toys have been discontinued. So it felt more like the creators were telling the stories and introducing the elements they WANTED to make, instead of just doing what Hasbro told them to do.

Season 4 was pretty good, but aside from a handful of episodes, it just felt...forgettable? Like you could watch the premier and finale and it wouldn't have felt like you missed much, aside from the context of the rainbow gifts.
But the season DID give us Coco, Maud, Flutterbat, and the Power Ponies. Plus some nice music too.

To be fair, she lives in a peacetime world where a badass military Dash has no place, and thus she simply has nothing to fight for, dark or light.
Moreover, there's something to be said for a Dash that never accomplished the Rainboom as a filly. Clearly her sense of self-worth was overinflated because of it, and while she still practices, she's arrogant and driven only by ego, rather than having a true accomplishment to still aspire to.
I think making that Rainboom made Dash lazy, and the alternate timelines kinda prove it.
