June 2011 here. Truly a magical time and plenty of time to catch up with S1 and get acquainted with the fandom before S2 aired.

I was aware of some of the rumblings and happenings since I was on 4chan when this shit exploded. And a friend was bugging me to watch it around the time S2 started but I managed to hold off until The Last Roundup premiere.
