Starswirl the bearded created a time travel spell and never completed a written copy to allow anyone else to manipulate time to the same scope. Limited the known completed variant to a week. Starswirl also created the dimension traversing mirror, demonstrating his ability to manipulate both time and space.
The season 5 finale episode ends with the scroll he created, that had been modified by Glimmer, opening another time hole by itself and vanishing into it. My theory as follows.
Starswirl the bearded used his magic to jumped forward into time, using parallel dimensions to find the best possible future outcome for Equestria. After finding a future where a single group of friends was able to keep balance in Equestria and bring harmony to it's full potential; he begins setting events into motion to make sure this Equestria would follow suit. Even going so far as to limit his own potential in order to make a better future, such as purposely not finishing his final spell, knowing Twilight would finish it and become an Alicorn.
Using what he saw in the future, he even knew that one day, a very specific pony would get her hooves on his time travel scroll and try to change history with it. However Twilight would eventually talk her down and bring her to the side of harmony. So he made one final addition to his time travel spell, one small hidden gem in the scroll that noone would spot. He made it to once the events of S05E25-26 finished, the spell would activate and transport the scroll back into safe hooves.
Whether my theory is absolutely garbage or not, there is an important question to be asked. WHERE DID THE SCROLL SEND ITSELF AT THE END OF THE EPISODE?
Nah man. Starswirl comes back, reveals he is actually discord, and the Tree of Harmony absorbs Twilight and the mane 5.
Discordswirl the chaos'd and Sunset Shimmer must defeat the Alicorn of Harmony and restore the world. Sunset then becomes a princess and we can all thank Larson for this.
>WHERE DID THE SCROLL SEND ITSELF AT THE END OF THE EPISODE?
>Scroll gets sent back into the past when Rainbow Dash performed Sonic Rainboom
>It's then found by NMM during the events of S1E1
>NMM uses it to travel in time and stop Rainboom/M6 from happening
>Because Starlight modified the spell she gets sent into the past too when NMM tries to time travel
>S6 finale is about Starlight using her friendship lessons from S6 to reassemle M6, defeat NMM and repair the time itself
>That "Cosmos" guy from movie leaks is actually Starswirl the Bearded
>In the end he is "defeated" and reveals that everything from S1 to S6 was staged by him
>His end game was to create M7 to protect Equestria from evil and disharmony
>By defeating him M7 have passed the final exam
>StB can now finally stop watching over them and rest for an eternity
Why the fuck didn't Starswirl become an alicorn himself and just fix everything then?
He was mentioned in the leak. They've hyped this fucker up so much that he better be up there with Gandalf and Dumbledore when he appears. Anything less and I will be disappointed. I mean, he's tied directly to RR and the last 3 finales. He's invented and mastered time travel, created dimension hopping portals, mentored the royal sisters, and made a destiny altering spell. He's Twilight's favorite wizard for a reason.
We'll probably see if stapled together and framed on a wall in the background of his home (whatever 'home' implies for him) when we finally see him.
He was pretty fucking lazy in the comics, he was a little too much like Dumbledore actually. The only times he got serious from what I recall reading, is when he had to slap Celestia's shit for getting into things he told her to stay away from.
The comics are 100% not canon. At best, alternate timelines.
Even the current arc, which has a resurrected Sombra's end game being the unleashing of shadow ponies buried beneath the Crystal Empire, completely contradicts what we saw in the finale.
Star Swirl is a fucking troll and mastermind. He bring alicorns to rule the united tribes. In exchange they gave him an eternal life so... The ride will never end before he will return to solve some god-level shit. He will return to help m6 and Princesses save the world from Titans and Burning Legion.
I agree, if anything I consider that one chapter book (Journal of the Two Sisters) which was actually written by a show writer (AKR) more canon than the comics for depicting Starswirl and the younger Celestia and Luna.
