Yes, technically speaking it's not JUST her, but, the episode does place her as the central device to change everything. Only by stopping the rainboom did the future change dramatically. And the rainboom affects all five of the others.

Under different circumstances, Dash may have done it to show off. Rewatched the scene where she tells the story. "...to defend Fluttershy's honor." So yeah I can see where you're coming from from a canon perspective, but anything could've been the plot device. Showing off, catching something super important that was falling etc.

It looks like the AUs were a result of the Rainboom not occurring at all in the finale, but I wonder if it had to happen right at the moment or if it could be rolled to the right (later in time) and still have the same effect. That would assume, however, that there were other crucial events in the lives of the rest of the Mane 6 that line up later on down the stream.

It's chaos theory, and the already-mentioned butterfly effect. Changing very slightly an initial condition results in drastically different outcomes.
In most AUs (e.g. in the Chrysalis one), some of the main 6 seemed to know each other, and possibly be friends with each other. Also relevant is the fact that they appeared to have the same CM as in the "normal" timeline, which means they discovered the same exact talent, although possibly in a different way.
I'd say that the Sonic Rainboom happening at that precise moment isn't crucial to the main 6 eventually bonding (at least partially), but the point is that without that particular event the strength of this bonding is not nearly the same, which in turn condemns Equestria to fall without its proper "guardians of harmony".
