I believe the Dazzlings failed to appear because Friendship Games was in production before Hasbro found out how massively popular these three would become.
I was throwing a few ideas around on how they could make a comeback.
Whilst the ideas sound great when put together, I'm hopeless at writing them up.
I'll drop the ideas together here in a minute. (Take a bit of typing out, bear with me).
Cleaned up this doodle of mine a couple of days ago too.

Okay, here goes.
Dagi and co learn how to sing again without the power of their gems.
However, they have no magic any more.
So, start with a secret meeting.
"I can help you regain your power"
"But.. How?"
Have a purple hand push an item across the table (Sci-Twi).
"Just help me get revenge"
Tawny hand picks up the item.
Draw back to show The Dazzlings. Adagio holding the magic capture device from Friendship Games, and laughing.
Next have Lemon Zest going to Canterlot high asking Sunset and friends for help because three strange girls have shown up at Crystal Prep. she's got away because she's got headphones- same as Vinyl Scratch.
All through the story, have the viewers/readers second-guessing whether Sci-Twi is actually behind the whole thing, or whether The Dazzlings have taken control of her once their powers were returned.
Any writers here think they could work with this bunch of ideas?
Seriously thinking of doing those first few scenes in comic form. (The handing over of the magic capture device).
