Diamond Tiara may be good at getting people to do what she wants, but there's no way Apple Bloom wouldn't be the leader. She's the most understanding and motivating. She's very good at it and clearly has a better relationship with her team than DT has with Silver Spoon. If anything, DT would be the "rarity" of the group.

There's a certain appeal to the balance of the characters though. (Till season 3), it was always 2 unihorns, 2 earthies, and 2 peggers. Seems like having 4 mud ponies, 1 master race pony, and one pigeon isn't really the way to go.
The CMC on their own represent one of each race, so there'd need to be one extra for each to work. Babs is good, but Pippington Britishhooves might be an alternative. Just not Twist. Never Twist. Suppose the other matterhorn and wingless flight pony could be new characters with explorable backgrounds. Maybe a kind of twilight-y personality and an asshole who's also not an asshole. But maybe I'm just talking out my ass.
