I watched that show when I was in elementary school, got the barney doll, and still have barney birthday party stuff in my attic from those days. I didn't comprehend much of what they said, basically some kids would go to this one-room building, get their barney doll to magically transform into a man-sized animate version, and then it would play with them, sing songs, and tell them about things like smores.

Maybe the point was that if we got our parents to buy us barney dolls, we could have a neat friend to play with. Maybe it was a statement about having fun with your imagination.

I watched an episode. I tried to think of a single compliment I could give it. All I could come up with was "The backgrounds are alright."

The writing is nonexistent.
The singing is awful.
The lyrics are awful.
The acting is awful.

It sucks. It has no redeeming qualities. Comparing it to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is like comparing "Madagascar" to the "The Lion King".
