The animators do a good job. Animation has improved significantly if you look at the first season compared to more recent ones.

What you need to fix is the WRITING. Please.
Make it more sensible, realistic and less retarded.
More actual nuance in the story and character arcs for the other characters, such as Pinkie Pie and etc.
Don't make it the Princess Twilight fetches friendship problems blah. Actually delve into the characters and their backgrounds.

Imo, writing can be good or bad, depends really. Some episodes are better than Seasons 1-3, and others are considerably worse.Overall, I think its improved, but its definitely less consistent in terms of quality.

As for the animation of the show, it still amuses me and it has evolved throughout the seasons.
