I was just starting to get fucking hyped for the show again when S5 rolled around, the cutie map 2-parter was amazing and it finally felt like the writers were going to pull their heads out of their asses. Then, EP 100 rolled around and it was the most incongruous mess Hasbro ever forced on us. I finally realized nobody gave a shit about making the show interesting and just wanted to center their show around how many goddamned references they could shove in, and the vast majority of the fandom supports it. They fooled me again and fucked with me just like season 4, and I just couldn't stand to stay on the rollercoaster of disappointment.

Who fucking cares about that episode? It was meant to be a panderfest. It was a unique thing that won't be repeated. Octavia, Vinyl, Doctor Who and Derpy haven't even appeared since that episode and Lyra and Bon Bon are back to being random background ponies again.

"We're going all out because it's a special episode" doesn't excuse you from making the references have context or weaving them into the rest of the narrative. I admit that it has slowed down in the last two years, fandom seems to be slowing down and shrinking now that there's other cows like Steven Universe and Five Night at Freddys material, but it's still very good and still pays the majority of my commisions.

It's more the people who literally are fans of the fandom. In general, show watchers are pretty damn neutral, and tend to have episodes they think are overhyped (In my case, Ticket Master and even Cutie Mark Chronicles are but two) or sorely maligned (Personally liked The S3 opener, and Over a Barrel), but over all, they tend to be like newfags to the show because they generally don't have the whole nostalgia, fandom and fanon aspect fucking their perception.
