It's very hard to come up with a good gift while others give me some shit like clothes or cleaning utensils but I think if a person comes up with original and interesting gift it holds more of an impact than money. Even handmade, especially handmade. It shows they tried, they cared. Not just threw some money at you.

I guess, but in my experience when people get me actual gifts, they do tend to be the things that don't require a lot of thought, like a pair of socks or some generic toy. Obviously, I'm still grateful; I could be getting nothing at all. But you've definitely got a point; for my birthday this year I got like $150 and one of those cheap small plushes of Fluttershy (my first piece of merchandise), and the plush definitely means more to me than whatever I end up buying with the money (likely an external hard drive).
