I don't think it's him. He has only written two episodes so far, that's not really enough to judge him. And while Princess Spike was pretty bad due to wasted potential, What about Discord was actually pretty great. Sure, he shouldn't have made inside jokes the only thing Twilight felt left out about (other positive memories can work just as well) and the ending was a bit awkward, but other than that, it had good development for Twilight (as well as once again disproving "perfect pony princess Mary Sue" shitposters) and all in all was comfy.

The problem was that the only entertaining parts of the episode were the parts that weren't explicitly jokes. It still bugs the fuck out of me that they referred to the inside references that they couldn't stop belly-bustingly laughing about as jokes. They weren't jokes, they were mildly amusing things they remembered doing. At best they warranted a chuckle.

Wasn't that the point, though? The audience sees the situation from Twilight's perspective, and from her perspective, the jokes aren't funny because she doesn't understand what they're referring to. She doesn't have a funny memory to associate with what's being said. I agree the episode used it too many times, but it was still sending the right idea across.

See the problem is that it's not entertaining in doing this idea. I get what they wanted to do, but I really don't think Discord was even necessary for this. If anything, you could probably do a similar plot with just the main characters minus Twilight and it would work fine.

That would be a point if they didn't use the exact same style of humor at the end with the inside joke about Twilight's trying to get them to drink a potion to break the non-spell of Discord's. They laughed just as hard and long remembering Twilight doing that as a mere reference, and we were there to experience it, meaning it should have been funny, yet we still got to experience Discord not getting it.
The whole thing just struck sour to me. Really bland and made the laughter feel fake since even being there it wasn't really funny.

Except that the whole reason Twilight was so sure it was a spell was by the "unusual" nature of how incredibly amused and laughing the mane 5 were upon the slightest references to their weekend of fun. That indicates that the response is unusual.
What really grinds me potatoes is at the end when everyone is staring blank-faced at Discord's attempts to reference the weekend again and Rarity says "I think the jokes have run their course". In other words, the memes weren't funny anymore, but the thing about memes is that they're not inherently funny. They're chuckleworthy at best, but not "I'm going to laugh for thirty seconds like this is the best thing ever".
But maybe I'm thinking too critically here. It just made the episode boring is all, that even with context the jokes weren't jokes. The only funny parts were when they weren't laughing, like when AJ asked Twilight what shit she'd had her muzzle in.

He has managed to make every single character lose any endearing quality or naturalness, every single character in both of his episodes felt jagged and alien. Truly one of the worst writers of the show.
