After being sent from your Stable on a quest for a power regulator talisman, you- junior mechanic pony Fuse Box- have faced several threats the Wasteland has to throw out you. Whether it be from mutated animals and insects to possibly killer robots, you've managed to find your first clue to the whereabouts of finding the key to your stable's comfortable survival. You stand in a control room overlooking a Ironshod manufacturing floor, having just hacked the main computer.

You decide to catch up on the bits of lore first before delving into the more technical aspects of this console's commands (<System Reboot> and <Securitron Settings>)

>Foreman's Log 1
Had to reset the 'days since last workplace accident' chart. Some dummy tried tampering with the Securitron personality matrices- what the hell did he think switching it to "enforcer" mode would do? I swear, the quality of ponies we got working here...

>Foreman's log 2
Nightmare Night's coming up- and apparently HQ is sending us a new tech pony to help regulate the 'bots. Mare by the name of Spot Weld. Got an ID and everything. Well, we'll be welcoming her into the fold or whatever on the 27th. Just in time to start getting those final decorations up. Ministry of Morale's been really pumping that holiday spirit thing.

Interesting- perhaps that ID you have COULD be of use. You decide to check out the Securitron settings either way:

A combination of "Real Life Harold and Kumar Quest: No Wee No Groceries Edition" and passing out during what was intended to be only a half hour nap because the QM is ver bad at taking care of herself. But for the next six hours it's just going to be me, the CYOA, and you sexy, sexy anons and no one can interrupt us. I'm even typing this on mobile so I can get something done while roommate jerks me around because he refuses to buy groceries unless we're both doing so. So let's get on with this

Yeah, these robots might be useful after all- provided their circuitry and programming isn't absolutely rampant. You click the <Default> option, the terminal whirring and working on sending out the signal. A small click signals that it's done. You then affix Spot Weld's ID to the front of your jumpsuit.

Alright, time to test your hypothesis. You step out of the office, carefully trotting down the steps- noticing that the Protectrons are still walking the same patrols. You go over to one that is just turning around and clear your throat.
"Warning- Intruder. Please identify-" it stops for a moment as it turns to face you, whirring mechanically, "Badge identified. Scanning identity... Scanning... Scanning complete. Welcome, how may I assist?"
Bingo, one robot ready and willing to serve. Nice! As long as you have this identity in this building, you're safe. Now, what to do?

Let's find the factory operator's office. That should have loads of info that could come in useful along with possible keys and another safe.

We just came out of that office, silly pony!
>>25419598

You ask the robot to lead you to the generator mainframe matrix. It beeps once, before slowly plodding along, "Please, follow me."
First, the robot leads you through the maintenance room, which is through the door underneath the overhanging office. It's a criss-cross maze of pipes that, if the factory were running, would be filled with hot steam. Years of neglect has left it rustier than the rest of the facility. It breaks your heart a little to see this much machinery in disrepair.
Another set of doors leads you to the room you've been hoping for your entire time here- the generator room. You bound ahead of the robot, heading towards the giant tower of the magical generator itself- twin coils at the top and wires leading out of it to everywhere. You pop open the front hatch- here it is here it is, here it-
Is.
Well, you found a power regulator talisman. With a GIANT crack down the middle- this one must have been broken ever since the first surge of the balefire bombs hitting Equestria. You sigh sadly, closing the panel to the generator matrix. Well, that was a dud- and you were so close! It never was going to be easy, was it?
You sit down with a huff. Well, now what? You could always check out that town- maybe they could point you in the right direction? Or maybe you could try some other pre-war towns the Overmare programmed in your pipbuck- Appleoosa is a couple days to the northeast, and Las Pegasus is about a week to the west.
Alternatively, you could just pick a single direction and keep going until you hit something, but who knows how long that'd take. Or what dangerous creatures you'd run into.
The robot beeps again, and you decide to take it as their way of showing condolence.
>Write in

>>25420425
Ask about it's different modes.
>>
>>25420425
It would be smart to go to the town we know has ponies in it and they should know the lay of the land. They can hopefully tell you where most things are or what las pegasus and appleloosa are like.
They also sounded friendly.
>>
>>25420425
I'm pretty sure we just came out of the server/control room, the factory operator/owner/manager would be the person in charge of running the factory. And wouldn't make his office the same as the server/control room. Considering the 'towers lining the wall' would need to be used by the employees.

But ok. Ask the robit where the supplies are stored. We might find something useful.
>>
>>25420425
Since we have unlimited access to this place we might be able to use it or it's robots for something.
>>
>>25420425
Love the little art updates, they are awesome.
That being said look for some supplies we could find something super useful, there always seemed to be spare ammo laying around in the oddest places...

Oh and see if there is some way of programming the proctectatrons to come along with, might be nice for some back up

Turning to the robot, you ask what it's designation is.
"Mk IX manufacturing security Securitron."
Alright then, you know that it should have some built in laser weaponry but not much in the way of armor- though supposedly security bots are supposed to have superior sensors for detecting intruders and such. A hundred years without maintenance and tuning has probably mucked his up. It'd take you quite a while to fix the guy up- nevermind all his friends, too.
You decide to test your luck and ask the Securitron to accompany you outside the building. He gives a negative beep, "I apologize, that is outside of my parameters. Please consult a RoBronco Securitron specialist for any questions regarding reprogramming of Securitron security model robots."
Dang. So much for a robotic companion- you could probably reprogram him yourself if you had the right tools and computer program on a terminal- though honestly the Securitron would probably slow you down. They're not the fastest robots around. You decide to ask finish your inquiries off with asking if there is a supply closet in the building. With a beep, he plods off to a small side door on the room you are in. It's not even locked- and inside you find a toolbox with some various wrenches, screwdrivers, and a ton of nuts and bolts. There's also some shelves with more random junk- replacement fuses, vaccuum tubes, and a few more rolls of duct tape. Definitely taking the duct tape.
Seems you've found pretty much everything this place has to offer. Onwards to Dirt, you guess?

From the Protectron maintenance manual, you remember that security Protectrons were built to do a few jobs- assist ambulances with medical care, provide support for the police and firefighting departments, and do dangerous construction work. Depending on the setting, the Protectron would behave in certain ways. Medical mode is not prone to attacking, and easily assists in the distribution of health potions and other meds. Enforcer mode is basically a watchdog mode that attacks anything that reads as hostile. Firefighter mode is a search and rescue protocol, and Construction mode follows whatever blueprints downloaded and has a variety of tool attachments to use.

Successes: 1, Failures: 4
You get your robot friend to power down, for a 'maintenance check' to which he quickly obliges. Popping open the back hatch, you begin your work- crossing over and reconnecting wires that you're sure will rework the system to your favor. After screwing the hatch back on, you power up the bot to see how you did.
The robot whirs, clicks, and then faces you, "Donde esta la biblioteca?"
Well... that definitely wasn't what you were planning on doing. So much for that.
"Cabeza es nieve, cerveza es bueno."
Okay, sure thing buddy whatever you say. You don't exactly speak Sponish.

You whisper an apology for breaking your first friend you made out here in the wasteland, who responds in kind with "No hablo Espanol"
You nod slowly, then walk out of the room. You'll come back and fix him one day. You promise.
Walking back into the main production floor, you quickly make your way to the side stairs. A few robots start to say halt before their sensors pick up your badge and give them pause. But you don't have time for them- and you'd rather not think about accidentally setting one of them into speaking only Prench or something next. You climb up the stairs, onto the roof, grab your stuff, and book it south-east. Dirt is supposed to be past the cherry orchard, so you'll need to find that first.
It's another long walk, but you're not feeling too tired yet as the sun starts to dip below the horizon. The dead branches of what you assume to be cherry trees loom over you as you cross the field. Up ahead you spot the dirt road that heads towards Dodge proper, along with a schoolhouse along said road. To the east, the big manor looking house and the barn of the orchard owners (Cherry Cobbler's great-great whatever grandma, if the stable's history is to be believed) sits in pretty nice condition. Certainly built that place to last.
>Continue to Dirt- no time to waste, and it's getting dark!

Better safe than sorry. You start towards the orchard house, keeping an eye out- the trees weren't too dense, but it was enough that something could be hiding. You make it to the front door unscathed, and push it in with a long, loud creak. Yeesh, it's just like one of those old horror films.
You step inside- it's a bit dusty, but everything seems to be in order. Pretty empty though- seems like someone (or probably several someones) must have been through here and picked the place practically clean. But finer searching can wait- time to get to sleep early, so you can get an earlier start tomorrow before the sun is up too high and it gets too hot.
You go through the house, finding more than a few wrong rooms before you finally discover one of the bedrooms. The mattress is even still there! With a flop, you land on it, kicking up a cloud of dust that makes you hack and cough. After a few minutes of beating the dust away, you settle in for the night. When you wake up, you'll need to figure out what to do first thing tomorrow.

The plan is that we put on our suit and then start heading to the town of dirt asking if there are any large structures around I guess.
>>
>>25424008
It is a long and fitful night's rest. You take a good while trying to fall asleep- the combination of being in a new place- hell, practically a whole new world- missing your friends and family, and usually being up at this hour anyways keeping you awake. When you do finally fall asleep, you have some weird almost-nightmares about roaches and other possible scary mutants out in this wasteland. Soon enough, light peaks through the dusty window, and you groggily wake up. You switch out of your Stable suit and put on the pinstripe one- perfect disguise should anyone wish a Stable dweller ill. You keep your newly acquired tommygun slung around your neck for easy access- the trek ahead is bound to be a long one.
Before leaving, you decide to give the house a small glance over- nothing of value seems to jump out at you, so you leave. No more wasting time.
You head east, following the dirt path out of the orchard until it merges with the dirty and barren strips of earth that make up the wasteland.
Two hours later and you're still walking, the sun slowly climbing up into the sky. The terrain is slightly hilly now, with small crests and valleys that make not knowing what's ahead a bit nerve wracking.
It's when cresting one of these hills that you see something that nearly makes you soil your suit right there. A giant. Fucking. Scorpion. You stare slack jawed at it. It stares back at you, snapping it's claws. Then it starts to run at you!

OH JEEZE OH GOSH OH GOLLY WHY WON'T YOUR LEGS MOVE FASTER! You go at full gallop, dodging around and past the giant scorpion. Please let Dirt be just over one of these hills! Please oh please dear Celestia and Luna let it be so!
The scorpion is hot on you tail, and you bound over another small hill- you see it! Buildings- or, well, slapped together shacks really but it's a sign of civilization! You scream at the top of your lungs, noticing the few people actually outside turning to see your predicament. The scorpion is gaining on you!
RATATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT!
Automatic fire fills the air, bullets whizzing right over you. You scream some more, diving to the ground. There's a sickening squelch of bullets tearing past carapace and into insect guts as your snappy pursuer is riddled with so many holes. You peek behind you- the scorpion lies dead just mere inches away. You eep again, scurrying away from it and breathing heavily. That was scary.
A heavy thump lands behind you and you turn- an imposing figure standing in silhouette between yourself and the sun, with a truly impressive wingspan. He also has the hot barrel of a submachine gun pointed at you, "Alright chica, get up nice and slow- no funny business."
You gulp.

You slowly and nervously stand up, trying to look as non-threateningly as you can- which is pretty easy.
You stutter out a thank you for the rescue before asking "Is this Dirt?" The gryphon looks around, and in a deadpan reply says, "Nah, it's Cloudsdale. Can't you see all the fluffy clouds below us?"
You clarify that you meant the town. He clarifies that he knows that. You frown a little- this guy is kind of a jerk. You then say that Gidget and Matchsticks sent you. He quirks an eyebrow, lowering his gun, "Matchsticks? How do you know the old lady?"
You tell him about the recording in Dodge. He frowns, "I don't know nothing about that- but the old lady has me under contract. If you're being anything less than honest-"
"Gino, what the hay are you doing? Put that gun down before you perforate the poor girl." a stern voice calls out from the small crowd of ponies coming out to see the commotion. An elder mare, but still hardened enough to not seem venerable had made her way through the crowd, harshly nudging the gryphon- you're guessing he's Gino. He puts down his gun, and then she looks at you.
"What's your name, kid?"
You clear your throat, "Fuse Box, ma'am- are you... Matchsticks?"
The older pony nods, "That I am."
You explain that you followed the directions left on the terminal in Dodge- along with how there was no actual reading involved with the file and how maybe 'Listen' would have been a better title for that. She smirks slightly at that, "That's an interesting. And by your general neatness and being such a stickler for grammar, I'm going to hazard a guess that you're from that Stable right by Dodge?"

You nod, saying that yes you are from the Stable. Matchsticks gets the most relieved grin on her face, turning towards the citizens of Dirt, "You hear that? Stable 15 has finally opened!"
There's a loud cheer, the crowd having gone from slightly suspicious to practically celebratory. Matchsticks turns to you, "Where's the rest of your Stable? Were you just sent ahead of the emergence?"
You bite your lip, before quietly asking if maybe she and you could talk somewhere a bit more... sensitive? Matchsticks nods, "Of course, of course- please, follow me to my cabin."
Gino and Matschsticks lead you through the crowd, all of the ponies reaching out to you and trying to voice their thanks to you over the sound of each other. This is absolutely befuddling. When you finally make it to Matchsticks' cabin, which is only slightly more well off compared to the rest of their houses, the shutting of the door finally muffles the crowd enough that you can hear yourself think again. Matchsticks takes a seat on a floor mat, and Gino opts to stand by the door. You sit opposite Matchsticks.
"You know, you're a little... older than you sounded on that tape." You say. Matchsticks chuckles, "Yes, that was recorded... must have been around 20 years ago, now. I'm surprised that battery has kept it running this whole time."
That reminds you- you've seen Matchsticks, but where was her friend? Gidget, that other pony in the tape. Matchsticks grows somber at that line of thought, "Gidget's been... dead. For about 13 years."
Oh. Well that's certainly not good. You quickly stammer out an apology for treading on such a sensitive subject, but Matchsticks waves her hoof, "It's been a long time, I've mourned and I've moved on. Now, you must have more than a few questions. Probably most of those pertaining to your welcoming here."

You nod, saying that it definitely crossed your mind.
"I'm not going to sugarcoat this- our people are dying. Not just here, but all across the Marejave. Crops are withering, Brahmin are dropping like Bloatflies to a Deathclaw- and it's all because of the taint in this land. The radiation that permeates the very soil," She looks to you with pleading eyes, "My grandparents came from a Stable. They said that theirs came with a device called the Crystal Harmony Element Creation Kit- their Stable selfishly used theirs to just clean up their little corner of the wasteland and they refuse to allow outsiders to live there except as slaves," She spits at the word, "Please, tell me that your fellow dwellers are kind ponies, ones who would help us use their C.H.E.C.K. to heal this wasteland.
You have never heard of this C.H.E.C.K.- if it even IS something that your Stable has, it must be WAY over your own clearance level- something only the Overmare or maybe even their closest family would know about. And that includes Cherry Cobbler. How are you going to explain this?
>Write in

>>25428578
Shoot, well we can tell her the brass tacks, we got sent out to fix a part that was broke. However we can impress upon the Overmare that we could try this idea of hers or if nothing else we have a buckton of mister hoofies, protectatrons and oodles more robots that would be willing to help!

Afterall since our stable is literally robopone city we could use the bots to help clean up the area of the wastes bit by bit for areas that are too dangerous for the ponies to go in with.

...Man we are going to need a SHITTON of mentats to pull this off to the Overmare....

That being said, if we are able to find a new power tailsmen we'd be able to turn it in and if we mention taht the nice folks here in Dirt were vital in finding said tailsmen we could defintly make the Overmare be more willing to lend a hoof to our fellow pones, and griffons too. Even if they are total jerkwads that are rude.

You're... a little overwhelmed by all this. You shake your head, "I... I'm just a junior technician, I don't even know if my Stable HAS a C.H.E.C.K.- I know I've never heard of it, something like that would be so far beyond my own knowledge clearance-" You stop, seeing as Matchsticks almost visibly deflates at your words. If you can help me find that part and get it back to the Overmare, then I'm sure she'll be more than willing to help you all out too!"
Matchsticks perks up a bit, but then grimaces, "If a power regulator chip is what you need, then you're going to have to go through this whole wasteland with a fine tooth comb- the magic from the balefire bombs has probably rendered most any sensitive components like that useless. It's why Gidget perfected the art of jury-rigging spark batteries."
Guess your hunch with the regulator at the Ironshod factory was right. You ask if there's any chance that she might know anyplace you could look- even if the chances are slim. She sighs, "Graveyard's machinery might have something, but that place is called Graveyard for a reason. Practically a haven for Ghouls. Stable City might, but like I said the only way any outsider is getting in there is through indentured servitude." She paces over to the window, "Maripony is to the north a bit, but that place is more dangerous than Graveyard. Hellhounds all over, and... other things. Things most of us aren't even sure what they are." She turns away from the window, and then back to you, "The only other place left out of all that might be Las Pegasus- wasn't even touched by the bombs, by some miracle. But that place just ain't right either. Always gave me the chills, walking those empty streets back when Gidget and I were scavving."

"There might be a couple of better informed places that could lead you to where you need to go." Gino piped up from his spot leaning cooly against the wall, "Hubcap, New Appleoosa, Scrapvale, Cancy. All a touch more populated than Dirt- well, except maybe Cancy. No offense, boss." Matchsticks merely shrugged in response, and Gino continued, "Scrapvale and Hubcap have their shadier spots, but if you know the right ponies then you can get info on almost anything."
"And you know the right ponies, don't you Gino?" Matchsticks said. Gino shrugged, with a faux humble grin, "What can I say, you don't get as skilled as me delivering Brahmin milk to every doorstop."
It seems now would be a good time to maybe start asking some questions of your own, maybe fill in the knowledge gap of what you don't know.

And I'm gonna pause with the updating here, gotta get some sleep before work. I'll be back Saturday night.

what's a ghoul? is the graveyard heavily irradiated by any chance? Las pegasus also looks like it would be a good bet to find a talisman.
I guess this means that appleloosa is useless.

Mind telling us how to jury-rig spark batteries?
>>
Let's ask about scrapvale and hubcap and who the "right ponies" there are.

We should ask about selling some of our stuff so we can learn about bottle caps. Also ask for some lessons with our guns.
