Hmm, like I mentioned before, he is popular with their target audience, so they may show him more often. It's just that he's a reverse of the damsel in distress, and so isn't going to be all that effective in combat. Now, being weak doesn't make him a bad character, it just means that there's currently no-one to live out the appeal of being an armoured guard. That's why I'm almost half-hoping the show does something with pony Flash, because the pony version's capabilities haven't been set in stone like Shining Armor has. Either that or they introduce a new guard character would could be an elite badass.
Also for those Spike ships, well... doing child shipping would be awkward, especially if it was child-on-adult like Sparity.
