The plot would have progressed more quickly and smoothly if it was just one or two jokes shared between Discord and a couple ponies. They really went over the top and it seemed improbable that all five other ponies would be so taken with Discord, of all characters, over the course of 3 days.

No one except Fluttershy has ever shown interest in Discord. I know the point is that they bonded while Twilight was away, but I was way ahead of Twilight in thinking it absolutely must have been a spell cast on them by Discord. I think the rhyming thing is what keeps most of the fandom from using her. It's not actually hard, but it's a little tricky to make that type of dialogue to work fluidly unless you're just making shit up on the spot, and have no structural details to worry about.
