That Katoom you posted is a 2-stroke. It's gonna be hard enough finding gasoline, much less 2-stroke pre-mix oil. Stick with a 4-stroke.
An old DR650 is bulletproof...it won't break down and it's easy to fix if it does. Since it's carburated not fuel injected it will be easier to configure for whatever fuel you find in hoers world...probably ethanol.
Equestria's roads are dirt, but they seem to be pretty smooth. The DR is heavy but should be able to handle anything you ask it to do. It's also big and powerful enough to haul some cargo and a passenger.

Ours had no armor. I was Air Force and they made terrible flightline vehicles. No room for the tools. Army & Marinefags tend to love their HumVees more because they were designed for their kind of work.
The best vehicles for my job were these Mercedes panel vans. Plenty of room for a crew and all the crap they needed to work with.
I wouldn't recommend them for Equestria though...maintenance was a bitch.

Solar power is a reasonable idea but you'd have to separate the collection station from the vehicle. Set up a panel farm...then orally service Celestia real good so she dumps down plenty of sunlight for you. Then use the solar energy to charge your battery powered car.
That said, I'd favor a bio-fuel like ethanol or bio-diesel. In fact, a diesel can run on just about anything once it's warmed up. Remember that Rudolph Diesel's first engine (in 1900) ran on vegetable oil.
