There's no reason not to tell them. We can't assume all guards are evil or corrupt.
Also, even if Joyride doesn't rescue us, don't forget that we're in the Witherwaters Kingdom. Our old home is in the Middle Kingdom. These guards don't work for our abusive family, and even if they capture us we probably won't be extradited straight away.

While the soldiers are distracted Emerald rushes up the staircase. He can see three rooms up here, and he ducks into the nearest one, slamming the door behind him and blocking it with a nearby chair.
The room is rather bare save for a window, a chest, a nightstand, and a bed. Above the bed are drawings that appear to be a tree, Giles, and a pony.
If Emerald had to guess, this is probably Praline's room.
There is a shuttering of the doorknob and then three loud knocks that make the colt jump.
"Emerald! You get out of there this instant!" the soldier says sternly.
When this is met with silence there are a few more knocks, a couple more jiggles of the doorknob, and then he says, "If you aren't out of there by the time we are ready to move I'm breaking down this door and taking you. You, stand here and wait for him to come out."
There is then the sounds of hoof pounding down stairs.

Emerald checks the window, and seeing that it can open steps out onto what appears to be the porch overhang.
He gets the idea of maybe tying together the bed sheets and slipping down, but as he moves back towards Praline's room he hears voices from below his hooves.

Emerald gets an idea. If he can make it appear he ran away he might be able to buy himself the time he needed.
Checking to see if one of the other windows was open first, he goes to Praline's bed, ties the sheets together to form a rope, and then very carefully lowers over the side of the overhang, hoping he won't attract the attention of any of the guards since it's much less noisy than him climbing down. Emerald gets it down successfully and then heads to the other window and goes inside.
The inside of this room is similarly sparse, containing only a dresser, and desk, and a bed. On the desk is a photo of Sweet Tea, Giles, and a third pony Emerald doesn't recognize. Perhaps a father?
