Do summer nights, being shorter, leave Luna with less to do? Or does it just mean she gets more time to mingle in daylight hours? That's a pretty good question. I could see one of two scenarios happening. It's either a low-key episode where they just happen to need to hang out for a bit and learn to appreciate one another for their own strengths. It might have just felt lackluster because it was supposed to be Rarity originally but they changed it to AJ because, as far as I know, it made Rarity seem too assholeish to do that to Spike. I really like episodes that are just 2 characters pairing up to do something, so I could definitely go for those ideas. Though I have to say i never really thought about AJ and Spike as buddies.

The two or so times they interacted in the early seasons made it seem like it would be a fun idea. AJ's all rough and tumble and Spike's a cool guy when he isn't being buttfucked by terrible writing. Sadly the buttfucking was in full swing during the episode. I don't know, it's just a dynamic I feel has potential but it was all squandered so now I'm left sad.

It might still have a chance. I felt like Spike has been written decently this season, he's had some good little sarcastic one liners which is what I like him best for.
But if you ask me, they both seem to act as the "straight man" for most situations, so they'd need a 3rd character to make it an entertaining episode. Like maybe Pinkie is there too.
