Hmm, that's a tough one to answer. Practically everything was different. It was nothing like the original show. Couple examples:
There is no Guntank. Kai and Hayato each pilot a Guncannon.
The entire story (all three novels) takes place in space. There is no Earth segment like in the cartoons. This is odd when you still have Garma attacking in his Gaw transporter...in space? It was disorienting visualizing that.
Since nothing took place on Earth, no aquatic mobile suits.

It's a game about a series of humanoid robots, it doesn't have to go anywhere.
And no it didn't come out yet, they delayed the fucking thing til next February and released an underwhelming as fuck trial version with four stages as compensation last month. The real kicker is that even that thing got delayed by like a week.
