So. What are good series to getyour SOinto mecha?My GF knows about my collection and seemed a bit interested at it but I never got far in explaining about the series or characters. She definitely likes anime (recently got her to watch Ore Monogatari and she loved it) but has zero knowledge about mecha other than some old ass toku that aired here so I'm a bit unsure if something like the original Gundam would be a deal breaker.

What does she like? If she is more impressed by the writing and direction of a series you could start her off with more classic series like Mobile Suit Gundam, VOTOMs, Giant Robo (OVA), etc
If she's more into contemporary anime aka weeaboo garbage like Attack on Titan or whatever else is airing on Adult Swim then maybe try showing her more shiny stuff like Evangelion, Gundam...

Really though none of us know her as well as you do. We can't really make a recommendations on what she wants unless you tell us what you know she likes in the first place. You gave us one romance anime she liked that's not really a lot to go on. Romance is also a catch all genre.It took me way too long to figure out SO wasn't the word so sarcastically, but significant other.

I was going through my gundam folder when I noticed that a good portion of the fanart struck me as being impressively godlike in appearance, especially the Turn-A.
This led me to the imagining of a religion circulating around a pantheon of Gundams, who long ago traveled the cosmos before settling down and created humanity in their image. I put way too much time and thought into this despite not having written anything at all in such a long time, so feel free to spam the tl;dr, because even I think this goes on for too long and reads like half-baked fanfiction.

Turn-A, the White Doll, was essentially the Zeus of this mythos, with regards to being both the leader and the most powerful. Though unlike Zeus, he was compassionate rather than petty. Turn-A had set off on his expedition an innumerable amount of millennia ago, having grown weary from the countless battles he experienced in what was only known as the "Dark History"; a battle that Turn-A himself ended single-handedly, but at end left so much destruction that the universe, which once was teeming with light and filled with gods, literally was rendered the black and empty void we witness now. To this end, Turn-A himself fused with the planet in order to ensure the success of his gift, leaving the protection of the Earth to the remaining Pantheon.

Why do people say IBO is unpopular? There's a lot of things I don't like but I don't pretend they weren't popular like SEED. But it feels like there is this idea that IBO is actually hated when really people just don't like it.
My idea of something that was actually unpopular was AGE. That is something you could tell was unpopular

Jesus this really is the wildly unnecessary and dumb Star Wars prequels origin of Darth Vader shit isn't it? I mean this whole thing has already been pretty terrible especially with the whole real Char Aznable body double garbage but to have him effectively initiate the OYW itself? I mean sure, the political climate was already heading in that direction and it was basically inevitable. But to actually have him plan and lead the attack that really sparked it is ludicrous parody.

Nah it's so much better than that, it's like one movie of Half-Vader, then 2 movies of full fledged Darth Vader just fucking shit up. Also there's no lame "fall to the dark side", Char is just a psychopath, always was.

Honest question: how much influence did SEED have in shaping the way anime is currently made?
Other than being a major early digital anime title, little to none. It made TMR a lot more famous and was a popular series with women. It gave Gundam an extra kick in the pants and 'may' have resulted in the higher number of series we've seen produced after 2000, but that can just as easily be tributed to Unicorn.
Actually, Seed's biggest aspect was being a major title for pirating. It was one of the first newly airing anime series to get a large foreign audience as it aired week by week, coinciding largely with the rise of bittorrent. At first, I got early episodes from naptster and other such programs, but by the end of the show, torrents took over and changed everything.
