ITT we talk about our creative writing process. When, where and how do you write? What makes you go on? Why haven't you given up? Which authors do inspire you?

I usually try to write during the morning and the night. My word count improved a lot since I have two writing sessions a day.

I always try to convey my character's traits like Tolstoy does, describe details as best as I can like Nabokov would recommend, and present it in an interesting prose. My style has been tooled a lot by Pynchon and Tolstoy lately, I believe. Even though I know I'm not as good as them, the idea of becoming a decent writer in the future keeps me going.

I usually write in the evening because I attend to college in the morning and I'm too lazy to wake up before 7:30. Sometimes right after lunch, sometimes before dinner. On weekends I use to stay awake for some hours after dinner (usually at 23:00, mediterranean hour) and write if I don't go out partying. My standard writing session is one hour long and something between 500 and 1200 words. Although I don't write everyday.
Started writing in september of 2015 and I feel like my progress has been pretty fast. Now I check some drafts I wrote in september/october/november and I see them as clearly inferior to my last stuff. I have posted some of my "late" writings on the spanish threads of /lit/ and they were well received (1L to that argie who used to insist on writing the critiques in english, your reccomendations were and are appreciated), so I feel like I'm already visibly improving my writing and that's what keep me going. I'd say my main inspirations are (not always deliberately) Flannery O'Connor, Faulkner, Chekhov, Roberto Arlt and maybe Pynchon. Although, as I said, I've been writing for no more than half a year and I know I still have a shitton to write, experiment and work.

It feels good, doesn't it? I see a lot of people on /lit/ complaining they can't write and I guess they're always expecting to be the new genius of a generation. It takes time to write something decent.

> When
Usually from 21 to 5, sometimes till 11-12 when it flows right. Also through the day too when other factors allow it. The results range from 10 to 5000 words.

>where
Depends on the scene; sometimes in my bed, sometimes at my table, sometimes taking pretty elaborate notes when commuting. Hotel rooms are godly too, unless you travel to some shitty hot place with fucking mosquitos.

>how do you write
On my laptop with one hand in my pants? What kind of question is this.

>What makes you go on?
It's the most enjoyable thing ever, better than reading, drugs or sex. Also I want to know how the story develops, share it with others, become a better writer and become famous without shooting up a school. Positive feedback is pretty addictive too.

>Why haven't you given up?
Don't feel like I could. It's too much fun and keeps me from committing suddoku out of boredom.

>Which authors do inspire you?
In a way, all of them but mostly Dostoyevsky, Hemingway, Flaubert, Cervantes, and for some reason Marry Shelley.

I write whenever i have an hour or two of free time. Most productive times are in the early morning with coffee, or at night with a few beers.
I write until I reach 1000 words (3 pages), after that I feel burnt out and fatigued and have to stop

Anyone writing scripts?
1)how do you write simultaneity in a script? Say if I want to have narration while a two page event is taing place..
2)How do you gain confidence about an idea? How much do you criticse an idea you have? I mean a stream of events, when what happens and in which order...
3)How much do you think of what a certain arrangment of events means towards what you want to express?
I find myself thinking of a line of events and then thinking of another version.
How do i make it click? Should i stop being so reflexive? but then how do i make sure the writign is layered?

Short answer: Read more and analyse what works and why. You'll get a feel for it eventually. Besides, ideas are worthless, write the shit down, experiment with the order.

Just throw it in there in between any dialogue you have, or if there's no dialogue just have it before or after the actions your describing. If the narration is completely disconnected from the scene just alternate between description paragraphs and the narration in whatever makes it smoothest to read.

>2
Put it down on paper, just bullet points, everything in your head. Then you can pick and choose and combine your ideas to get something better.

>3
Outline to help you choose which order of events. Layering is for revisions anyway.

Are there any good forums/sites for other people to critique your writing? I can't help but feel that working through criticism is essential to development.
