Can you recommend me authors or books that are as immersive and philosophical.

Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Cervantes

I may get shit for this, but I like Kazantzakis in a similar way.

How the fuck did you enjoy this book? I'm like 1/3rd through it and have to force myself to keep going.

Why would you get shit for that? What's his reputation?

I have most of his books in Greek but haven't got around to reading them yet.

Same happened to me at the beginnig.
Luckily, the book gets more and more captivating as you go forward. By the end, you feel like nothing better has been written in 19th century.

I always believed that Dostoevsky and Charles Dickens are similar on both an aesthetic level and a philosophical level, excepting the sophisticated refinement of Fyodor's psychological observations. It's a critical platitude to remark on the psychological flatness of Dickens's characterisations; to say Dickens created caricatures rather than characters: but I feel this is a misunderstanding. The psychological simplicity of Dicken's characterisations are an effect of his moral world-view, which is an ethics of common decency. He simply believed, with almost childlike innocence, that if we behaved with decency towards each other the world would be a better place.

After reading All of Camus, some anon on lit recommended me Dostojevsky for his completly different approach with existencialism. There must be more to continue reading, but i have no idea what

it picks up in the latter third

too bad when you say you "loved it!" you couldn't place a heart for the dot above the letter 'i'

Not OP here, but Dostoevsky's psychological observations are why I love his work so much. Can you recommend anyone else who has such sophisticated characters?

The Recognitions
The Red and the Black

Have you avoided the Idiot ? If not, start with that! It's still my favourite Dostoïevsky

Proust is very similar to Dostoyevsky in the psychology department (arguably better, and definitely more complex), although he doesn't touch on philosophy nearly as much.

You don't wanna find out who did it and why?

TBK is one of the few books I couldn't put away.
