I am >>8286569. I'm only slightly worried because I read and was bored by fortress of solitude but that was a self indulgent book which isn't what i fear with chabon.

Wonder boys is kind of lmao quirky but good. Mysteries of Pittsburgh is really really good but I'm a sucker for that type of story.

I've read k&c twice and it's enjoyable all the way through. And it's not some pretentious nonsense that supposedly is only enjoyable after page 200. My only major criticism is that the final few chapters go for an undeserved sympathy (towards new characters we are introduced to quickly)

This. It can be interesting in spots, but - and don't roast me for this - it's a little too 'Jewish' for my taste. It's one of those stories where everything seems a little contrived in order to emphasize the plight of Jewish people. I feel like an actual Jew would enjoy the book more than someone else.

absolutely recommend this book. It got me hooked on reading again. Vibrant characters with a fairly interesting plot that should keep you plowing through it. Chabon is a very good writer, and his sharp styled prose is something to witness even if you dont finish the book. I recommend the Yiddish Policemans Union as well
