What is some genuine tumblr-core literature that you guys have read?

I read taipei and I guess infinite jest would impress most of those girls. Be yourself though, act like you're casually and subtly smarter than that type of fiction. You read pynchon and joyce and faulkner and mccarthy, but you also read spiotta and didion and oates and joy williams-why?-because you're smart and open minded and well read, a real smooth modern intellectual.
Minority writers get bonus points (especially female protags), but also strangely, those weird idealizations and deconstructions of the old south ala Streetcar or Glass Menagerie...mythology is really popular, too, Euripedes and Sophocles especially. Plays in general, really, theatre's huge. Poetry, also. Impressionist, not so much post modern or contemporary, unless we're talking Rita Dove-esque.
Like...you can't really call it /lit/ but HP, Percy Jackson, Tamora Pierce, Divergent/The Host/Uglies...and YA in general, too. Book Thief. John Green. Perks of being a Wallflower. Night Seekers. Those fake deep books where preteens speak like age old professors and philosophy has been pulled out of every lonely teenager's thought process as they walk home by themselves or some shit desu
Hitchiker's Guide, or other 'dry humor' english books. For purely aesthetic reasons, Doyle.
Anything Bronte or Austen, usually, and Hardy.

I've read some steampunk, which I think may count. Gail Carriger and Cherie Priest are both fun authors to mindlessly read.
If you want something more literary, authors like Angela Slatter and Kelly Link have great short stories that are more magical realism than outright genre fiction.
Really depends on what tier of tumblr you're after. The emo side, the porn side, the literary side, the YA side, etc.

I'm glad the author killed hkmself. Served him right for making everyone think going to the mental hospital is being forced to choose beteween two hot girls and song and dance numbers with Zach galafinakis. I hate all this shit that makes the public overestimate the efficacy of mental health care. It leads people to blame patients when things don't work and to support coercive measures to enforce compliance. If you're in a college town or any especially large one, there should be youth theater groups, amateur productions, poetry readings, etc. All sorts of places like that will have these hunnys.

Plenty of universities host discount performances of student led productions, open book reading; grab a friend and show up, they often have interviews with the casts afterward. That's how I met my bf; I played in the pit orchestra for a new age interpretation of Oedipus, and he just stuck around for the post show party. He thought the production was pretty awful and I asked why and we went from there.
People love these things because they can act on their education without actually attending school, considering a proper NEET likely wouldn't go out of their way to interact with the collegiate community desu. Public libraries on the other hand...

It's less about the actual ~minority writer and more about the appearance of contributing to diversity, for most.
