hey /lit/ I'm writing something and I'm trying to remember where I read something about the need to study the roots of a concept before studying its consequences.

For instance, if you would like to speak about Nationalism, you need to know what a Nation is.

Its something similar to "Ab ovo usque ad mala" or something like that.

If you want to speak about thermodynamics you need some basis in mathematics and physics.

How do you conceive this idea? Something like "from the egg, the chicken".
