This. It's really not hard. Even if you don't recall the page number, it takes less than half a minute to scan to your most recent recognized text.
>>
>>8279142
I like the AL-star, anon. I'd have bought one, but I thought the charcoal Safari looked better.
>>

Dear God, not in public, buddy
>>
I just dog ear the pages. I'm an avid reader and I like my books having a well read feel. I like going back to them and seeing where I left off, remembering where and when I had been reading the book, reliving it.

The cane does it for me.

Hurts so bad knowing he will probably realize his mistake in a few years, that will be a rough cringe.
This makes me think, if you're a parent and your child gets into it's head to do something like this - should you stop them? Is it not part of their parental responsibility? Or does one must allow their child to live and let learn from their mistakes?
>>
>>8279637
Jesus christ, where did he get that """feather""" from, looks like he plucked it out of a fucking dog.

"increscunt animi, virescit volnere virtus" and all that desu

I would never use a feather pen or god forbid bring it in public, but ostrich feathers makes for good interior decorating desu.
>>
>>8279142
Why does it matter if it's "stylish" or not? No-one pays attention to what your bookmark looks like. I use a library receipt or whatever piece of paper that happens to be available.
>>
>>8280549
It's not hard, but it's a waste of time and god damned stupid, and I say that as a person who never uses a bookmark.
>>
>>8279279
Fuck, I laughed so goddamn hard.
>>
>>8280981
Some people take pride in their book collection and don't see putting mangled pieces of shit between the pages as proper.

>being such a snob about bookmarks

If you'd spend your time actually reading and not caring about the appearance of your bookmarks you wouldn't be such a fucking halfwit.
>>
>>8280981
They would if it was a Louis V Bookmark for 200 quid.
>>
I use the bookmarks that this store hands out, they look pretty much like the design on the website
they're sturdy and look nice enough
not using a bookmark seems inefficient and unnecessary, and if you do it out of conviction I think you're just being contrarian or eccentric in a poor sense

It's odd how you can infer so much about someone from their respect of literature.

Almost as if you're projecting.

At the same time you could argue that having to deal with a bookmark seems unnecessary when you could just remember the page.
As for me, I usually read 4-5 books parallel to each other, which makes it much more convenient to use book marks.

I don't see how, inserting and removing a bookmark probably takes me about 2 seconds each time, while another anon said that finding his spot without a bookmark takes him atleast half a minute

Maybe if your book is bigger than the bookmark it doesn't really matter, but for this book, I can totally see how having to carry around a bookmark with it is annoying. If you just have to keep one number in your head, then it's hardly a big deal.
(of course, you could also just get a shorter bookmark, but, at the end of the day, to each his own and so on)
>>
>>8281119
I use bookmarks in reclam books and it's fine, but I suppose there are always random things that could get in the way
you could just aswell suffer a concussion and lose the page number as only having one inappropriate bookmark

If you mean the Lamy Al-Star in OP, it's 100% fedora. Get a Lamy Safari instead, it's the same thing only cheaper and tougher. The Safari is probably the most popular fountain pen on /g/ because it's so comfortable and reliable. It's the mechanical keyboard of pens.
>>
>>8279637
Unless you're planning on long-ass writing sessions, no. Just buy a ballpoint and use a computer for the long stuff. I've owned a few and can confirm their meme status.
>>
>>8282774
I second this. Just got my charcoal Safari some days ago, my first fountain pen.
Any general tip about fountain pens?
>>
>>8282852
Get the converter for it and some Noodler's Bulletproof Black ink. This is the best general purpose ink because it writes well even on very poor quality paper.

Like most fountain pens, if you use it regularly it will very rarely need cleaning. If you abandon it for a long time you might need to clean it before you start using it again. Diluted ammonia is good for cleaning fountain pens.

I got a Z24 and noodler's black eel when I got the ink. I think I got it right. Thank you, anon
