well that really took an unexpected turn near the end
I recently read this book too. That shit is bleak, even by O'Connor's standards.

If you have read her short stories you might have read some of the chapters. She adapted the novel from her short stories, I think

It's not that it's a depressing story, it's that it was a genuinely funny, at least to me, book with some serious themes for the first 80%, and then heliterally murders that guy, blinds himself, and dies a slow, painful death while unknowingly making that old lady die alone in love with him. Also, the way Enoch's story ends is a super downer too, in a more subtle way. This is my first O'Conner story, are the rest like this?
