I use the merriam-webster app to check out words I don't know & the goodreads one to keep track of the books I have read or want to read

Same here, although I use my browser for them. I also occasionally use HJP, when I don't recognize a word in my native language.

I use a program called ConnectedText. It's basically like a desktop wikipedia.
