What are your thoughts on Calvino?
What books have you read by him?
I've read Baron in the trees and I'm halfway through If on a winters a traveler.
my name is calvino

Very yes
> What books have you read by him?
Cosmicomics, Italian Folktales, If on a winter's night, Barone rampante, Cloven viscount, Invisible Cities...?
Candy so nice it declines itself in every flavour I can't say no to

I've read the ones I own (pic related). I love Calvino. He's brilliant, hilarious, kind, and poetic. Start with Palomar, and then do Invisible Cities, Winter's Night, and Castle.

Cloven Viscount is terrible, it's embarrasing. Winter's night and Invisible Cities are good though.

How's Italian Folktales?

Starting with Palomar is a pain in the ass mate. I'd recommend Cosmicomics for the first time reader.
I do love Palomar though don't get me wrong.

i thought if on winters night a traveler was too cute and self referential to take seriously. i guess that was the point, but i just wasn't feeling it

I enjoyed The Cloven Viscount, although The Nonexistent Knight is much better
I read if on a winters night a traveller a few weeks ago and it struck a serious chord in me. Absolutely my favorite book I've ever read.
How do you guys feel about cosmocomics? I read the first story about the moon and moon milk and whatnot and it's not grabbing me. Are the other stories different?

I read Invisible Cities, which I thought was quite good. I've got a huge backlog of other reading to tend to at the moment. I'm seeing lots of people mention Winter's Night. Should that be where I go next? Any recommendations for a Calvino novice?

absolutely read if on a winter's night, you'll probably blow right through it. the chapters are pretty short and there are so many different writing styles that it stays fresh
>>8263903
Winter's Night is great, but Castle of Crossed Destinies is awesome if you like tarot, and Baron is fine.

I'll admit the Cosmocomics are low on my Calvino love list too.

Also: silly, nothing interesting, no memorable moments, predictable, poorly executed, etc. Length surely responsible for a lot of these things but the short story wouldn't be very good or interesting either.

It does have a sexy peasant maiden
What are some other good metafiction books in a similar vein to if on a winters night a traveller?
