Why did Iago do it?
Othello promoted someone ahead of him, and he also suspected him of having slept with his wife.
The idea that Iago's motives are mysterious, that he seemingly does it all "for no reason" is a weird myth. Iago straight up says why he hates Othello.
I've posted this before and somebody replied that, well, how can we *believe* Iago, you know, because he's so deceptive? This is a needless complication that muddles things without explaining anything.

tl;dr: Iago did it for the kek's and memes.

Pretty much this.
Also, 'Othello' was not written as tragedy in the traditional sense; Iago is actually the hero in it.

Iago is anti-Prospero
