When Infinite Jest hit book stores in February 1996, the title's two words were in the mouth of every serious reader in America; every living writer, however, was faced with a different pair of words: "Game Over."

The reason is that Infinite Jest, the actual book not the fucking text or whatever nonsense, can be smoked, used as a chopping board, eaten over a period of days, the list goes on. Wallace is incredibly versatile: yesterday I tore out some pages and fed them to my girlfriend while she slept, the next morning she'd got it and she cooked the dust jacket for dinner.
