One of the best writers post-war Japan has yet produced. Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is an undisputed masterpiece.

One of my heros, except for the whole gay thing. Otherwise a great aesthete, who strived to combine the flower that wilts (the mortal vessel) with the flower that lives forever (ideals of the mind). I love Mishima.

Great man. An idol of mine. His writing: Stunning. He elevated his life into a piece of art through his death. A writer that is very close to my heart. Reading Runaway Horses fucked my shit up.

What progression would you recommend? I finished The Sound of Waves today, it was my first of his.
>>
>>8183537
Don't know.

Many people recommend The Sailor who fell from grace with the sea as a starter. Outside of that and Confessions of a Mask i've only read the Sea of Fertility tetralogy, which i found to be amazing, especially part 2.
>>
I encourage everyone to watch 'Mishima: A life in four chapters'

>except for the whole gay thing

Literally who cares. Why do you care? How does it affect you? How can people be so shitty and insecure?
>>
>>8183573
There's also a film version of The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea (based off the book but localized)
http://rarelust.com/the-sailor-who-fell-from-grace-with-the-sea-1976/

and The Sound of Waves was turned into an anime:

If I were to name an author whose thought process is most similar to mine, it'd be Mishima. I'm not even gay. Aesthetic is important.
>>
I've read 8 of his books and loved them all. I can see why people wouldn't like him though and its for reasons similar to Dostoevsky.
Besides his tetralogy, he's works are more suited to college age students than anybody else.

Homosexuality is a sin, faggot.
Nothing to do with insecurity you degenerate coward.
>>
>>8183537
Read Sailor, it has a lot of the elements of his other work and is easily understood even without a deeper knowledge of post war Japan (although you will be reading it a little superficially then).
Confession was my first one and is still my favorite but I have sadomasochistic tendencies, so I don't think I can speak for everyone.

>>8183573
DSchrader really got him and assembled something that should really make you understand why he committed suicide.
His short film Patriotism is also worth watching, very realistic yet beautiful portrayal of harakiri.

>I love Mishima
Just admit that you would've choked yourself on his cock if you had the chance
>>
Why do most famous japanese authors kill themselves? With Mishima you have a political motif, maybe, but still it's like a disease among the great 20th Century authors.
>>
lol op u don't post those pics of him prancing about in a diaper holding a dildosword anymore? does some publisher or japanese interest group pay u to post this shit? or do u just waste ur life for free?

If anything the gay thing makes him greater. He didn't need pussy to survive.
>>
I've only read confessions of a mask. Some really fine writing but a bit overly psychological, interior. Kind of like Dostoevsky I guess
>>
>>8186235
he managed to survive without pussy by taking big dicks up his asshole? that's like an addict saying ever since i switched to heroin i don't need oxies to survive anymore
>>
>>8183754

Also he was one of the influences behind Ghost in the Shell SAC 2nd Gig. The character of Patrick Sylvestre and his work is based off Mishama although they had to change the name because they could not secure the copyright
