I thought some chapters were kind of tough. I could barely understand what was going on in chapter 3, desu.
/lit/ just likes him for the poop and loli parts
V. and Lot 49 are definitely my favorites from him. The historical sections of V. are basically a combination of Borges and Invisible Cities (and they are my least favorite chapters by far). I also like to view V. as the novel Donald Barthelme never wrote.
The plot is hard to follow, you've gotta keep reading and it'll all come together somewhat. It's a great book, one of my favorites.

I think like you've done the reading wrongly if that's all you got from the novel...
I'm 300 pages into this book right now and I'm loving it. I haven't really had a hard time following what's going on, except for chapter 3.
