Economics and philosophy
I thought about applying for PPE at Oxford, but I just decided I could read philosophy in my spare time so I just went for Economics.
While you have the positive economics part of the fun is the normative part (I.e political philosophy)

Go to nursing school or get your MBA and read and write in your spare time. Or buy a one way ticket to France and start walking east with just enough money to subsist on. Life experience>MFA.

I see so many Asians majoring in economics - why? Every Econ major I've known has become a shitty teacher, not an economist.

The same reason that pre-recession waves of young women became psychology majors. Their parents told them that all that matters is a college degree and good grades and they can do anything.
Asian parents are telling their kids become a doctor or an economist without knowing what it means or where it will lead.
If I was going to college right now I would go to the bureau of labor statistics and look at their industry outlook for 20 years, major in a relevant field, and minor in my interest in increase my gpa and enjoy myself.
