It refers to the vast amount of personal and often intimate information that every individual with access to the internet now makes available to public and commercial entities. It's not even really a question of hiding your information anymore. With the advent of 'likes' and whatever else is on instagram/twitter, you're encouraged to put your most important events online.
It's funny to think that this is probably the first time in history when first-world and maybe second-world governments probably have a photo of every single newborn available online.
