I won't suggest a novel outright, but I'm going to give some serious thought to the trope.
Many weeaboo mangos and animus have something like this as their premise: a sympathetic loser happens upon some supernatural power which introduces a q.t. girl of some kind into his life, which then makes life worth living. His life may not be perfect, but it becomes much more interesting for all involved, since the plot itself requires that the girl is (usually) happy to be there, for whatever reason. Sometimes, he even actually manages to fuck the girl, though for some reason, this copulation is left out of the story for an extended period, as a kind of torture which would seem to contradict the above.
Oh My Goddess! is the most concrete example which comes to mind. Other examples include Tenchi Muyo, Video Girl Ai, and other harem animus of the 90s/turn of the millenium.
Related stories include the Scott Pilgrim franchise, and to a lesser extent the I Dream of Jeannie TV show (I think that the guy was actually an astronaut/pilot though, so he actually had something specific going for him to begin with). Weird Science also comes to mind. It's always some (supernatural pixie dream?) girl that makes it all worthwhile.
Can't think of a novel along these lines though. I think one could make a straightforward argument that the simple story premise is the stuff of "low" culture, as I've sketched above.
Bookstores to this very day have whole aisles dedicated to romance pulp, usually targetting straight women. I wonder if there's any prose outliers that work the other way. Not high culture of course, but it would fit OP's prompt.
