Why does /lit/ hate Ayn Rand/Atlas Shrugged?

#whoisjohngalt
>>
Near as I can tell, she has multiple things for people to hate, so it's like a paella of hatred. There's something in there for everybody. I hate her because I'm a Christian and her way of thinking is basically Satanic, but I know there are lots of atheists that hate her too.
>>
No one hates the literature.

They hate the pseudo intellectual fedora tipping Bioshock upper middle class teens that worship it without even reading it.
>>
>>8125974
Wasn't bioshock making fun of her stupid ideology?
>>
>>8125974
Hey, I actually read The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged back when I was a fedora tipping Bioshock upper middle class teen who worshiped Rand.
>>
>>8125961
Because she writes bad books that spend thousands of pages spouting bad philosophy
>>8125981
Yes. Rapture is supposed to be what happens when objectivism is applied to a large population of people.

It's nonsense. Nobles literally have no transferable skills.
>>
>>8126093
This, but unironically.

She mistakes integrity for a capitalistic trait when it is clearly apolitical. She conflates hundreds of ideas and concepts in the infamous speech sections of her books none of which are particularly thought out.

She basically also assumes that the rich people in her stories are the only competent people at their companies and thus 100% responsible for their operation. Absolute garbage.
>>
>>8126088
Yup. Lots of people fell for it briefly when they were young and feel great shame.

>>8125974
Speak for yourself, I hate the literature. I powered through most of AS during a road trip and just had to put it down, it was relentless and numbing. Dany's thoughts were inane and her moments of success or triumph felt like reading about a lizard person. Reardon was autistic as well and I'm stunned at the lack of subtlety with the message. I'm cool with whatever message but there are multiple lines in the book that are unironic straight up "the boring and poor are holding back the intelligent people with the fire to create new things and make a better world".
>>
>>8126138
>implying poor people don't ruin everything
>>
She's right wing.

/lit/ is a left wing/progressive board.

Have you ever noticed there's hardly any right wing writers/intellectuals? Exactly.
>>
>>8126216
Yet we're inundated with Christfags.
>>
Atlas Shrugged is several political screeds, including a 70 page (3 hour verbal) speech, strung together by a vague semblance of plot, all to promote a political ideology that is essentially "Somalia in the 90s."

I mean at least in Starship Troopers, the political stuff got broken up with some actual debate and some battles, and was promoting fascism, a actual real political system.
>>
>>8126216
>Have you ever noticed there's hardly any right wing writers/intellectuals? Exactly.

And why would there be when the right wing openly vilifies buk learnin (for fags) and intelectualiums (athiest lies about the baby jesus)?

Plus it's not like they say anything other than "being a bootlicker is good and cool because reason."
>>
>>8125961
I've read Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal and The Virtue of Selfishness.

He philosophy is that of a narcissistic sociopath. It basically boils down to "Gilded Age was best age and we should all continue on down that path! Robber barons good, poor people shit!" We tried this crap in the 19th century. It sucked. It sucked hard.
>>
>>8126278
>sociopath

No shit. She's right wing, she's gonna be evil.
>>
>>8126344
Stop it, you're not good at this.
>>
>>8126347
Lmao. Go suck off Drumpf on /pol/ faggot.
>>
>>8126352
Dumb american, I bet you think you're smart but you only confuse yourself.
>>
Lit is either Alt-Right or marxists/cucks.

One thing they can both agree on is that liberatianism is retarded.
>>
>>8126278
This. The philosophy is utter bunk. Capitalism is inherently a death march towards accumulation of ever greater market and political power to subvert competition and free markets, and proposing property as the most fundamental human right is inherently violent and coercive.
>>
>>8126382
where do political opportunists fall into this?
>>
>>8126382
>marxists/cucks
But those are two entirely disjoint sets m8
You should understand by now intersectionality and critical theory descend from marx in only the same sense as neoconservatism descends from trotsky, and that they like the rest of postmodernism represent a solid break from materialist dialectics. Unless you're some kind of newfag.
>>
>>8126403

Socialism is also inherent violent. Because you are forcing people to give some of their wealth for the benefit of others, or face the threat of jailtime/violence.
>>
>>8126610
Not if you dont have property
>>
>>8126606

I define groups by the tactics they use and nothing else. Their stated goals are literally meaningless since they cannot be arrived at anyways.
Anyone who behaves like a Marxist is a Marxist, their (explicit) dedication to dialectic materialism notwithstanding
>>
We don't. Hating on Rand is a hot new /r/srs meme.
>>
>>8126711
Indeed, the end goal of socialism is to have all property in the hands of the state. How noble.
>>
Because the literary/art community is full of a bunch of leftist, marxist faggots who will do anything in their power to dismantle solid arguments for capitalism.

I honestly hope they get what they want one day, just so that they fucking starve to death.
>>
>>8127299
There are no "solid arguments for capitalism" - you stupid fucking retard.
>>
>>8127312
Other than the fact that you are alive and nourished and using a computer right now, of course.
>>
>>8127312
Go move to Venezuela you insufferable fucking teen
>>
>>8127299
leftist isnt a real world and calling someone a 'marxist' means basically nothing
>>
>>8126150
The message doesn't bother me, but it beats you over the head with it, real John Green level stuff.
>>
>>8127432
Marxist diversion tactics, everyone.
>>
I hate it because I hate philosophies and worldviews that insert and argue for large amounts of human suffering on the behalf of something 'greater than' to be 'striven' 4
>>
>>8127314
Jesus, cancer
>>
>>8127312
Cringe
>>
>>8127323
Go move to Somalia, you egregious cockrider.
>>
>>8127314
Congratulations - that might be the most retarded comment ever posted on 4chan.
>>
>>8126610
Not the correct use of the term "inherent."
Top-down redistribution of wealth is indeed violent in execution as a tactic or policy, as well as often ill-fated as the redistributing authority is a class unto itself administering its own rule. I'm right there with you on that one.
But consider the nature of property for a moment. How does something become property, and what does this entail?
>>
>>8126021
I've just started playing the game btw, is it /lit/ approved or is it pleb?
>>
>>8126216
>/lit/ is a left wing/progressive board.
Not me. Anyone else

>le alt-right

(im actually a conservative libertarian irl but being /pol/ online is too fun)
>>
without m'lady Ayn Rand the world would not be blessed with such beautiful, enlightening works of writing like this one:

>>

I honestly hope they get what they want one day, just so that they fucking starve to death.

I've seen you doing this in so many threads. It's time to stop.

Personally I wish all political discourse was banned from this board, I just enjoy calling out obvious false flags. /pol/ and anti-/pol/ can both fuck right off, I don't mind shitposting but I would at least like it to be about books.

Nice trips though.
>>
>>8130249
>wish all political discourse was banned from this board
You can't discuss a philosophy in any meaningful sense without addressing its implications for individuals and societies.
In turn, you can't discuss a piece of literature in any meaningful sense without addressing the philosophical themes underlying it

Go back to your fucking Magic Treehouse books senpai
>>
>>8130398
Wow, so this whole time when I've been enjoying and discussing books without any interest in their political implications, I've been defying the laws of physics? I'll alert the media posthaste!
>>
>>8130430
>my oblivious ignorance is a standard everyone else should strive to meet
>>
>>8130465
People can exercise their interest in politics on the politics board, but I come here instead of there because I couldn't give a shit about politics. I don't want anyone to be ignorant, I want them to do this shit in a place where it doesn't kill threads that are actually about literature.

So by that logic, if I think /lit/ sucks, I should go start posting DFW threads on /his/?
>>
>>8130612
>he doesn't already do that
>>
>>8130612
>by that logic
/pol/ is an echo chamber packed with the uninformed, simplistic opinions of those who feel no obligation towards intellectual and philosophical breadth/depth and who will shout you down for disagreement in a manner entirely similar to the SJWs, simply cloaked in the pretense of rationality born of unchallenged ideas and bias confirmation. You cannot have a decent leftist thread on /pol/.
You can post DFW all you like here and have the support of the dominant board culture. It's silly to kick out social and political theory though, as this is one of the only places it can find purchase through these internalized obligations to intellectual responsibility.
