Up until the second Red Scare most anarchist writers were similar. Bakunin, Kropotkin, Goldman, Mahkno, they all fought and sometimes died for their struggle. And that's just a handful off the top of my head.
It's still possible to find anarchist writers who have skin in the game so to speak, but they're much harder to find because they don't publish or even disseminate their work well to the public. It seems like Gelderloos might have skin in the game, we'll probably find out when he's dead or arrested.
