Most readers don't advance beyond a 10th grade reading level.
Not a single book from the top ten is read in tenth grade.
What the fuck is 10th grade?

American schooling terminology. Wikipedia says it's kids 15-16 years old.

Very few people call it 10th grade though. The vast majority of Americans would call 10th grade "sophomore year."

You don't hit a common high school book until #17.

reading level and educational level in america is a complete sham. In elementary school I supposedly had a college level reading ability only because I had slightly above average reading comprehension and could write coherent sentences. I was supposedly a critical thinker even though I had never learned about logical fallacies, cognitive biases, etc. American education as far as literature goes is being able to summarize and conclude one of a few correct answers that the teacher agrees with and accepts.
