Why isn't normal for screenwriters to publish and sell their unproduced scripts? Why isn't it normal for audiences to buy and read them? There are plenty of people who do this stuff with stage plays.
because it hasn't caught on yet, you fucking moron.

You can do it, it just doesn't happen that often and in screen writing you can go several routes to selling it.

because screenwriters don't consider their scripts to be worth any literary value, unlike egotistical playwrights

You are literally making the same thread for the (at least) third time in the past month.
Nothing has changed since the last time you made a thread.
The film is still the commodity, and not the screenplay,
unlike theatre where the play is the commodity, and not the production

Because no one would buy them. And no one would buy them because screenplays are worthless as entertainment (and that's all they're meant to be) until they're filmed.

This is actually the first time I've made this thread, but that's a good explanation.

>screenplays are worthless as entertainment (and that's all they're meant to be) until they're filmed
I disagree. Screenplays allow for more detail than stage plays, and I have trouble with novels because I can't really think visually.
Because screenplays are pretty different from stage plays. They aren't as digestible as plays are without a visual reference.
Also, most people don't know this, but studios buy up scripts and don't film them all the time. In fact, there are more scripts that get bought but not made than those that do.
don't the studios have their own screenwriters on the salary to write what they need exactly

that ended after the 30s and 40s, at least I think-- wouldn't go within a country mile of that land o' vipers

The spend a lot of time talking about twitter drama, but there was some pretty interesting insight into Hollywood.
Because there are thousands of playhouses and acting troupes in the country and who will pick up a play. Movies are more difficult to produce.
