well how the narrator continuously weaves lies and the enormous amount of information that is given is confusing and just the plot itself is pretty convoluted. It doesn't help that V. doesn't know what's going on either
Also the sarcasm is hard to detect, like when he claims that he never talks about himself or his finances it's hard to tell whether V. really means this, even though it's not true. Or when V. makes a statement like Mr. Goodman is totally insane for thinking Sebastian was talking about russia when he obviously was. I mean I can tell it's supposed to be tongue-in-cheek but a lot of stuff seems needlessly obfuscated and I can't tell if it's intentional or not
very strong command of the english language though for nabokov's first book in the language, that is very impressive
