He said Henry Janes was his favorite novelist and T. S. Eliot his favorite poet. He knows Latin, Ancient Greek, Spanish, Italian, French, Middle English, Old English. He has released audiobooks for Rimbaud's poetry, Divine Comedy Beowulf, Trolius and Criseyde, and more. He has a PhD in literature with a focus on metamodernism. What do you think?

Trump don't really give a fuck.

He don't read books nor watch TV/films, basically an American.

The only reason he's so popular now is because of his""""""""""humour"""""""""". Since the guy is doing his whole campaign by his own money he's also more free (more amurikan) to joke around or say truths nobody else would say.

American politics is a joke and Trump is the funniest clown. #build_wall #winter_is_coming
>>
>>8060759
This. He'd probably be able to have the best book conversations. Ben Carson probably second.

That being said, this notion that being well-read is an essential quality is based on outdated tabula rasa concepts of humanity. There is literally no need for an aristocrat to be familiar with your faggoty little pomo crypieces.

His favorite book is "All's Quiet on the Western Front"

His favorite movies are Citizen Kane, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Gone with the Wind, Goodfellas and The Godfather.

While that taste would not qualify as original, it is, I think, pure Trump aesthetic. It fits.

The most interesting thing about Trump is that he seems to be more of a working class sort of guy. If a working glass guy was rich, that is.

I have not been given any reason to believe a word that comes out of the orangeman's mouth, though again I'd be glad to have my attention drawn to such a reason. But as far as I can tell, Trump is the logical conclusion of the lack of seriousness, in the deepest sense, that plagues people today. Pound bemoans society's preference for a mold in plaster to fine alabaster. But now people can be content only with pixels on a screen: the representation of representation, the parody of a parody. And that is what gives us Trump. I'm just praying for nuclear obliteration at this point.

>prolific legislator

Very few bills written by Bernie ever get anywhere, he's kind of like Ron Paul in that he's a terribly ineffective idealist legislator.

But unlike Ron Paul he sucks the establishment's dick when needed. He eviscerated Paul's attempt to audit the fed. Also Bernie has done nothing with his life other than politics. Even Hillary at least practiced law (unscrupulously as with everything else she's ever done). The ideal of a citizen legislator is dead in this country and it's a damned shame.

Trump is essentially an American Crassus. The fact that he even got this far shows that Plato was right about democracy and that while our system was once well designed and functioned more or less effectively for almost 250 years, unaddressed executive power grabs, politicization of the court system and the general atomizing effects of democracy on society have condemned us to an imperial state.

There are several things wrong with this post. For one thing, I'm not just squabbling about 'aesthetic issues;' I'm talking about the discounting of aesthetics as a whole. What, after all, is the point of economy or securiy? Surely they are not to be pursued for their own sake. They must always be in the service of something greater, and I would call that something greater 'the finer things in life,' whether poetry for poetry's sake, philosophy for philosophy's sake, or mathematics for its own sake. We must not be governed only by means and take them to be our ends, and we also need to realize that the ultimate ends are good for their own sake.

But of course we've never had philosopher-kings in this country--which is a fault. I guess Trump might be argued to be in a way the end result of American pragmatism, although I'd prefer not to be so negative. I guess my real problem with Trump is not that he's not an artist or a philosopher, or even that he actively discourages art and philosophy (we've had plenty of those types in our country's history): the real problem is that he, as a man and a symbol, is exactly the opposite of everything 'fine' in life. He, his mannerisms, his 'ideologies' (I'm not convinced he has any strong convictions), his cult, are all totally opposite to what life is really about. It's not really pragmatism as you seem to think, though pragmatism can be an evil in its own right. It is a distortion, a parody, of pragmatism and populism. As I said, a parody of a parody; a distortion of a distortion. I don't care if what I say is 'pretentious,' at least I mean it.

Security and economics are pursued for their own sake since the goods they provide have intrinsic value, even the pursuit of those things have intrinsic value to humans. Most aesthetic theories are nothing more than social tools to create hierarchies, naturalized aesthetic are probably possible but I doubt someone like you would advocate them. You are assuming that art and philosophy are the ends that people need, but many people would rank personal agency, objective knowledge, and social relations far higher. You confuse me with someone who supports Trump. What I am trying to say is that Trump gains every time his opposition reveals how out of touch they are, how conceited they are, and how arrogant they are.

Regarding the rest of your post, humans can be said to have primary and secondary needs, the former being biological, the latter spiritual. By continually ameliorating his conditions, man spends less time fulfilling his primary needs and thus has more time for secondary needs: art, philosophy, whatever it may be.

>their economic policy is the same neoliberalism
inb4 backlash from believers in Trump's campaign rhetoric

Remember. It's not about the economics. Nothing capitalists can do will prevent the inevitable crashes. It's about the image. With a hard-right Republican in power as the economy fails, nothing will stop the left-wing backlash, and we can finally have you faggots in front of a wall, where you belong.

Trump is only liked by fatherless manchildren who need a 'strong man' figure in their lives and contrarian edgy kids who are sick of Spineless Obama.

No, just contrarian edgy kids.

It cracks me up that /pol/ still tries to revel in it's political incorrectness. Because it isn't. It's just a more extreme version of the mainstream.

doubt it, more like a return to establishment politics
I don't disagree that it would be bad for the right if Trump won though, it would however be a momentary distraction
